Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is a saying in Utah about the weather: "if you don't like the weather in Utah, just wait five minutes!" Storms do not last very long in Utah, and the weather is usually pretty mild. Typically, Salt Lake City has very warm summers and pretty cold winters. The great thing is that the warm summers and cold winters are often broken up by summer showers and beautiful winter days. Both are bearable and are actually quite nice changes. The area has beautiful springs and summers, and it is truly an amazing climate. One quickly forgets that Salt Lake City is in a desert!

If you are into outdoor recreation, than the weather in Salt Lake City provides a welcome change of scenery and activity. Utah is a place of four seasons, so it would behoove students to bring a wide variety of clothes with them. Also, when you start meeting people here, you will want to start engaging in some of the fun activities in which they participate. As far as the pollution goes, Utah has some of the worst air in the nation some days and also some of the best air other days. It's an interesting phenomenon. However, the great thing is that students have the mountains just 20 minutes away, where they can always get some fresh air.

Freezing Cold Winters, but Amazing Fall and Spring Climate

The winter season in Salt Lake can be extremely harsh and can make walking across campus a fairly miserable experience. My first winter here ruined more than one pair of my shoes! However, if you can tough it out through winter, the fall, spring, and summer seasons are beautiful. There are many fun activities to do outdoors in every season, and some are even offered as classes through the university.

Beautiful

Lots of sunny days! Spring is absolutely beautiful, especially with all of the bulbs and trees blooming. Yes, it snows quite a bit in the winter, but streets/walkways are usually salted and plowed quickly. Just bring a warm coat and waterproof boots and you'll be good to go!

Depends on the Weather

Most of the time in the winter, it is a pain to have to walk across campus in the snow and slush. Walking in the rain isn't as bad as walking through snow. I usually cut through buildings when I can to stay warm and kind of dry. Having sunny days definately makes a huge difference. I actually enjoy walking to my classes and there are people around just enjoying the sunshine.
