Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is a saying in Utah about the weather: "if you don't like the weather in Utah, just wait five minutes!" Storms do not last very long in Utah, and the weather is usually pretty mild. Typically, Salt Lake City has very warm summers and pretty cold winters. The great thing is that the warm summers and cold winters are often broken up by summer showers and beautiful winter days. Both are bearable and are actually quite nice changes. The area has beautiful springs and summers, and it is truly an amazing climate. One quickly forgets that Salt Lake City is in a desert!

If you are into outdoor recreation, than the weather in Salt Lake City provides a welcome change of scenery and activity. Utah is a place of four seasons, so it would behoove students to bring a wide variety of clothes with them. Also, when you start meeting people here, you will want to start engaging in some of the fun activities in which they participate. As far as the pollution goes, Utah has some of the worst air in the nation some days and also some of the best air other days. It's an interesting phenomenon. However, the great thing is that students have the mountains just 20 minutes away, where they can always get some fresh air.

Cold

It's not bad most of the time. I'm from Vegas, so I was not used to the snow. During the fall it's absolutely beautiful!

Welcome to the Mountains

Salt Lake City, and more particularly the U, is essentially on the mountain, so it will be cold in the winter. (However, this provides amazing opportunities for skiing and snowboarding - a ton of resorts are only 20 minutes away.) The climate is pretty dry because it is a desert, so the cold isn't bone-chilling, but the weather is easily dealt with if one uses some strategy. The fall and spring are great and a lot of people hang out outdoors.
