Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

UVM’s varsity sports have seen a rise in popularity over the last few years, although it is still a mid-major Division I school in most sports. However, the men’s hockey team is regularly in the top 15 in the nation, and the skiing team has a number of team and individual national champions on its resume. While UVM lacks certain athletic powerhouses—like a football team, although a club team was recently established)—when the Catamounts start winning, people take note. UVM has a growing reputation as an upper-mid-major in Division I, with both basketball and hockey regularly competing for a chance into their respective NCAA tournaments. However, baseball and softball were recently cut and some other teams, like women’s hockey,  are still in the developmental stages and have a tough time competing in the highly competitive Hockey East.

Rated one of the most fit campuses in the nation, UVM is a school where just about anyone can get involved in some form of sport. There is basically a club for every sport offered—or not offered—on the varsity level, and some clubs, such as hockey, rugby, sailing, and equestrian, are often ranked as some of the top clubs in the country. Intramurals are also a great way to get loosely involved in competitive athletics.

Rides on Mens Hockey

Hockey is really the only varsity sport we have here. This years team is young, so we're not that great, but this is a D1 school so we are good at what we do. Club sports are so much fun, I would recommend a club sport over a varsity. Find me at women's club volleyball! best sport ever woo

There are tons of student sports and intramural teams here at UVM..some I've never even heard before like quidditch but hey whatever floats your boat I always say and of course gutterson is packed with "it feels like the whole student population" when it comes to hockey games..I just wish we could have more school spirit for our basketball teams like other D1 schools like Syracuse and maybe that way you could actually go to the final four or something

Getting Involved at Groovy UV.

There's so much to do here, there's never a dull moment. As long as you apply yourself, and seek out the things that interest you the most, whether it's an organization you've always longed to be a part of or you're itching to start you own club, you can and with a few friends it's possible to make that dream come alive. School spirit here, is a major part of the extra curricular scene, and our mascot, Rally the Cat, is the best. Meow. The athletic facilities are splendid, and there's always something happening, whether it's a dance class, or students climbing the rock wall, it's all there and free for students, and staff to use at their leisure. It's a busy time no matter the season at the Univ. of Vermont.

School Spirit

Students at UVM love their Catamounts! Students can be seen sporting their UVM attire on any given day around campus. Both the men’s and women’s hockey teams are followed religiously by students and local residents alike. The UVM men’s team, in particular, has been very successful over the years. They have won four conference titles in the last decade alone. The men’s basketball team has also experienced recent success—particularly in the 2005 NCAA tournament when they defeated perennial the powerhouse Syracuse in the second round.
