The campus-wide implementation of strictness leaves some students aggravated and feeling as though their rights are being violated. Other students, meanwhile, like the added feeling of security with increased police presence and firmness. But regardless of your personal view, common sense will keep you out of trouble and prevent you from having to answer to the law.

It is true that campus police are stricter than they used to be. They are more lenient to alcohol offenses than they are marijuana charges, but if you’re irresponsible or unlucky, you are asking for trouble. As it stands, charges for possession of pot endangers your chances of obtaining or continuing to receive federal student aid, including loans and grants—a line that many people can’t afford to cross.

Punishments?

The campus strictness when it comes to drugs and alcohol could be considered hardly existent to some students. In vermont, it is not a big deal to use marijuana. Even though it is technically a dry campus and you are not allowed to do drugs, students will get written up for weed use many times and never get in any real trouble. Alcohol is a little bit more strict, students will definitely get in trouble if they get caught, but if they are smart (which most students are) then they do not get caught drinking on campus.

Easy Going

As long as you have a chill RA, you should never have to worry about getting written up. Those who do get written up get slap on the wrists, the punishments are not severe at all.

Not Very Strict on Partying

Being in Vermont, there are a lot of students that participate in drug and alcohol use. Many consider us "hippies" here at UVM. I don't live on campus, so I don't know too much about the policies about this kind of thing, but I do know that a lot of partying goes on and I hardly ever hear of anyone getting caught.
