Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

In a world of rapid technological advancements, computers are becoming more and more essential. From daily business affairs to cash registers, computers are everywhere, and UVM is no exception. So, it is not surprising that nearly all students and the University recommend bringing your own computer. The University has an Ethernet connection that provides almost instantaneous results, and UVM provides at least one port per student living on campus. Moreover, the Internet is “free” (for the low cost of your college tuition).

If you have your own computer, it is best to bring it because, without a doubt, you will be thankful in the long run. If you do not have one, there are a number of computer labs available, and they tend to have sufficient capacity. Across the board, computers are usually in good shape. The math and engineering departments have much nicer computers labs, while the library settles for older ones. Occasionally, students complain that documents saved at the library pop up on their own computer as gibberish. Save your work to a disk, your e-mail, the network, or any way possible, and don’t wait until the last minute to do your work in the lab or you might find yourself waiting in a line that extends past your deadline.

Crowded During Day

Computer labs in the library get crowded during the day with everyone on campus at the same time. If you hover around, one will usually free up. Everyone I know has their own personal computer.

Wireless on Campus, Not in Dorms.

Gaining internet and computer access in the library is easy. The dorms do not have wifi. Library gets very crowded finals week. Computer labs are available for business majors.
