As with any college campus, there are drugs and alcohol, and there are students who use either, both, or none. Marijuana is the most prevalent illegal substance, along with alcohol. How much you choose to partake is up to you. But, keep in mind, this is Vermont, a very liberal state. Pot is very common not only on campus, but in the surrounding Burlington community. Whether you engage in drugs and alcohol or not, students must learn to balance work with play. Just remember to do both, and you will have a great time.
UVM was the longstanding host of the 420 Festival—a massive gathering of students, professors, and community members in support of legalizing marijuana. Perhaps the only significant school spirit event of the year, 420 took place on April 20 at 4:20 p.m. on the lawn outside the library, where pot smokers would light up in unison and peacefully protest the laws against the drug under a watchful eye of police and administrators. After 2001, the gathering was ousted by police presence. UVM has started Spring Fest in place of 420, a day of concerts and promotional giveaways. The change has not been well received by many veterans of the festival, but over time, Spring Fest will probably become the new anticipated tradition.

I smoke weed everyday. S**** practically legal on campus. Definitely can score some of the east coast's finest ganja if you know the right people, and by that I mean anyone. And not to mention the Dispensaries coming in to B-town next year.
