Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking is not fun! As UVM continues to grow, so do the number of people wishing to have a car on campus. Students agree that parking is not ideal in this pedestrian town, and it’s even more difficult on campus. You'll seldom find a parking space on your first loop though the lot, so you will have to park extremely far away from your dorm. On top of that, spaces are cramped and get even tighter when it snows. Students’ overwhelming advice is to leave your car at home unless utterly necessary.

Parking at UVM is not likely to be resolved any time soon. Parking passes for upperclassmen living on campus are doled out through a lottery system, so not all students receive them. A parking permit is not cheap, and you’re not even guaranteed a space within sight of your dorm. Tickets given for parking “out of your zone” are outrageous. So, bottom line: Only bring your car if you absolutely must or if you know you’ll use it all the time. The final complaint: First-year students are not allowed a parking permit. As far as driving to class, don’t bother. There is certainly nowhere near the academic buildings to park, even for guests.

Limited/Expensive/Hard to Find

First years can't park on campus but after that year, it is most convenient to have parking on campus. Other than that, it is incredibly challenging to find parking around campus anywhere for free.

Below Average

On campus parking sucks. There are very limited spots available for people who live on campus, and auxiliary parking for commuting students is nonexistent. This is unacceptable in such a car dependent location.

Not a Problem

With a parking permit there is ample parking on and around campus. Parking in town also is not a problem
