Birth Control Available?
Yes
The pill, the patch, the ring, the shot-basically everything is offered. Call (434) 924-2773 a few weeks in advance to schedule an appointment. Sometimes, they get really backed up, so the earlier you call the better. It is also helpful and less intimidating to talk with a PHE (Peer Health Educator) about these sorts of things, in addition to a gynecologist. The Peer Health Educator is usually an upperclassman who is fully trained and has all sorts of important information about both men's and women's health.

Social Scene
The UVA social scene is difficult to define. Certainly, Greek life makes up a lot of it, though definitely not as much as it used to. But while the school holds tight to many of its traditions-Greek life included-UVA is expanding to include a variety of different social scenes as more and more different people join the community. Students are generally outgoing, friendly, and interested in what they do; the social scene is a huge part of student life.
Hookups or Relationships?
UVA can be odd and sometimes frustrating in terms of relationships, dating, and hookups. Often, you'll find two types of people: those who randomly hook up at frat parties and bars, and those who are in extremely serious relationships that will probably culminate in marriage after graduation. There is very little casual dating that comes in between. The preference for hookups versus relationships tends to show the most through age and year, with a lot of people resigning themselves to hookup culture for their first couple of years.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
Typically, classes, student organizations, sports teams, mutual friends, and gatherings are all great ways to meet new people. Day parties, held on Friday and Saturday afternoons during the spring semester, are also a great way to meet new people.
Dress Code
UVA's social dress code is quite distinct and easily followed, if you have the desire to strut your stuff. Guys - Polo shirt or button down, khakis, madras pants jeans, or Nantucket Reds, Rainbow flip-flops or Sperry topsiders, UVA baseball hat covered in frat sludge, and wayfarer/Ray Ban frat glasses. Girls - Pretty dresses, designer jeans with a srat t-shirt and a Northface (Mountain Hardware will suffice), or cute Nike gym shorts and oversized t-shirt, Rainbow flip flops or Jack Rogers, blown out hair, designer Aviators or wayfarers.
