Additional Facts & Statistics

Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Be ready for huge classes.
  • Campus is hard to navigate at first--it's good to have a map with you at all times.
  • Career Discovery Week is really helpful no matter how old you are. The information is just as relevant for freshman as it is for seniors.
  • Don't take any huge classes too early in the morning--nobody's keeping track of you, and you'll skip out a lot.
  • Dorm food is ultra-expensive. The Ave is way cheaper.
  • Dorm rooms are absolutely miniscule. Expect the worst.
  • Just because you haven't done homework on it doesn't mean they can't test you on it--do the reading.
  • Know your options: Check out Early Fall Start and Outdoor Orientation.
  • Meet as many people as possible at the beginning of freshman year--everyone is friendliest at this time.
  • Rush isn't binding. You can go for a day, then drop out.
  • They've got bowling!
  • Thursday is party night in the Greek system and on the Ave.
Interviews & Information Sessions
The Office of Admissions hosts one-hour information sessions at 2:30 p.m. on most Mondays and Fridays (except state holidays). An optional one-hour walking tour immediately follows each session. Registration is recommended: admit.washington.edu/Visit/FreshmanSessions

Prospective students are also welcome to attend a class in their academic area of interest. Choose from among more than 50 classes. Drop-in course schedule: admit.washington.edu/Visit/SampleUWClass
Campus Tours
Tours are offered Monday-Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. (except state holidays).

Tours leave from Schmitz Hall's third floor lobby and last about 90 minutes. Bring comfortable walking shoes. Umbrellas are also advised November through April.

Self-tours also available -- just pick up a Campus Walk brochure at the Office of Admissions, 320 Schmitz Hall (Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.), or at the Odegaard Undergraduate Library (OUGL) front desk.
