Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Again, UW’s size is the defining factor here. If you’re looking for hot guys and girls, they are definitely to be found on campus, and many believe they are concentrated in the Greek population. Likewise, if you’re attracted to athletes, hippies, stoners, skaters, ravers, whatever, UW pretty much has it all. The dating scene varies from group to group, but perhaps one trend is that underclassmen are more likely than upperclassmen to be single. Underclassmen are more likely to stay single and have casual hookups, whereas upperclassmen are more likely to be in a meaningful—or at the very least, exclusive—relationship. Toward the tail-end of college, a lot more people seem to pair off.

UW has a happy medium between the more materialistic Southern California brand of guys and girls and a more hippie, laid-back type that some of the schools in Eastern Washington tend to attract. You won’t confuse campus for Hollywood or Malibu, but there are definitely plenty of attractive people of both sexes. And if you go to some parties, hang out at some popular places on campus, and maybe do some heavy lifting or jogging on the treadmill at the IMA, you’re bound to run into them one way or another.

Hipsters

My school has all types of people, but because it is so hard to get into the school it has all the same kinds of people in a sense. Smart people. But not really. Generally there are a lot of nice people, but not any I've really gotten to know.

Most attractive people are in the Greek system, but you'll still run into nice-looking people in the dorms.

Girls and Guys

I've noticed in recent years that there are a lot of international students at our school. They're usually seen in big groups walking around campus and they dress a little differently from the way Americans dress.

The typical outfit for girls at UW is a Northface jacket with rainboots or lululemon yoga pants with sweaters and ugg boots.

The typical outfit for guys at UW is jeans with a t-shirt and urban outfitter sweater.

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The social scene is really active at UW. Depending on what you like to do, there are ample opportunities to go out and drink or stay in and invite people over. Get a group of friends and start a Grey’s Anatomy party every week, or find a frat party you’ve never been to. Because the campus is so big and there are so many students who live in the area, it’s not hard to find something to do——at least on Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights!

Hookups or Relationships?

There’s a good mixture of relationship statuses at UW. Lots of students are in long-term relationships, and you’ll frequently see couples walking around campus holding hands or lounging together in the Quad. At the same time, there are plenty of single students available for non-committed fun and/or dating.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Going out on the Ave (if you’re 21+) is a great way to meet new people. There are a lot of different types of bars so no matter what you’re into (dancing, pool, trivia competitions), and there are plenty of opportunities to talk to people. For underage students, house/frat parties are a good bet since lots of people pass through. Although the campus is big, sometimes you can be surprised how many people are connected and have friends in common. Strike up a conversation with someone at a party——oftentimes you both know the host, or you have the same major or residence hall.

Dress Code

For the most part, UW students dress very casually on campus. To stay warm and comfortable, guys and girls sport Northface jackets and jeans for the majority of the year. Only some brave souls wear heels to class, but most girls choose sneakers or UGGs. Most students carry an umbrella in their backpacks at all times because no one ever knows when the rain will start flowing. At night, girls will dress up a bit more, but in general, the guys look the same.
