The University is a very safe campus. The parking lots are lit at night, and there seem to always be people walking around. There is not really a place where students feel very unsafe, but that is not saying bad things won't happen. If you are alert and smart about things, such as walking in groups or in well lit areas at night, the campus is overall a comforting place. You will see many students walking by themselves at all times of the day and night.
The police are well known on campus, and if you look closely, you will be able to see them positioned throughout the campus no matter what time it is. They will also be down on Water Street patrolling near the bars. When bigger events happen, such as Homecoming, the police also patrol the streets and neighborhoods more heavily. The Student Health Center, which is located on Upper Campus right by the dorms, is very accessible and will have most of anything you would need. They offer everything from birth control to flu shots. If they do not have what you need, then they will refer you to some place that does. Most students would say that the University does a very good job at keeping the campus and its students in safe hands.
