There is ALWAYS something for students to do no matter what your age is. I just completed my freshmen year and even though I am under 21, I never had boring weekend with nothing to do. The school itself and organizations put on events regularly, there is always a house party easy to find, and the Majestic has bands in all the time with cheap affordable tickets.

Health & Safety:
I feel safe on campus. As far as health goes, the service provided is good. I've experienced illness throughout the school year and it was very convenient to walk over to the health services building and figure out what was going on with my system.

Madison has everything around it, I swear. Whatever type of food you are in the mood for, you can find it. State Street has just about everything on it.

As a music education major, I have more than just school work to focus on. I must also practice my instrument. Between studying and practice, there tends to be a shortage of hours in the day. However, I love the school of music and everyone in it. It's such a welcoming community, and everyone is as passionate about music as another.

The academics at UW have very high standards. Everyone around you is an exceptional, intelligent person. If you came from a school as the valedictorian, you are now among many, many valedictorians.

I am not a part of Greek Life, and I do not know much about what they do.

The campus police are strict, but they usually aren't jerks about it, they'll just tell you to leave. The dorm strictness varies, usually RAs are understanding and just tell you to stop, but I had an RA who just did not get it.

The police on campus care about the safety of the students. That being said, they aren't jerks about shutting down parties, they just tell everyone to leave.

There are a lot of parking garages on campus, but very little street parking. It is very difficult to park on the streets, and garages can often be expensive.

Our athletic teams are usually top contenders within our conference, but even if we are having a rough year, the games are still fun to go to.

Wisconsin is a top notch school and a degree from the university, accompanied with hard work, is very likely to land you a great job

Its not like schools in the south. Greek life exists and is a lot of fun, but it is not essential to have a good time.

Tons of ethnic and american options right by campus on State Street. They are all basically hole in the wall types of places, but I have had a lot of success. One end of State St. is filled with street food vendors as well, and if you want some more upscale places, Hilldale is easy to bus to. A lot of freshman stick to dorm food because the student prices are really low, but once you are sick of that and have some extra money to spend, eating out is a lot of fun.

Campus is enormous and it seems like I'll never know all of the buildings. The campus has a good mix of old, historic buildings and new, high tech buildings with architecture that makes walking around campus fun. The spring and fall are the best times as the blooming flowers and colorful leaves make you want to skip class and just walk through the gardens. Even in the middle of winter, go check out the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery which is always filled with students studying by the indoor trees and waterfalls. Because the campus is so big, there are a variety of social groups and opportunities for every interest group. While it might take you some time to find it, there really is a place for every person on campus.

UW Madison is known as a party school for a reason. No matter what age or level of fun you are looking for there are options available. Those 21+ usually bar hop but will also throw house parties, especially on Mifflin St. For those underage, you will be let in to many house or frat parties, and there is quite a lot happening in the SE dorms as well. No matter what option you choose, be prepared for a lot of walking.

Parking is cramped and congested. The few university parking ramps open to students are expensive compared to the city's parking ramps. Street parking is impossible to find, and the only way of being assured a place to park close to campus is if you rent a house or apartment that includes parking. Permits are available but require proof of special circumstances. Overall, don't bring your car to campus.

Madison has a variety of academic focuses that you can lean towards. It is known for its engineering and medical schools, but there are very few people who graduate from Madison who are not successful in what they do each day.
The opportunity to work in study groups is beneficial and is a big help prepping for papers and test.

Transitioning from Iowa State to UW was difficult, more so because of the size and the city and the number of students. The UW campus is spread out based on majors. It is also very difficult for whites males to get into the school. High GPA, community involvement, and timing essentially determines your spot in admissions. Once you are in though, there is nothing like it.

History is great because its an ongoing process. Many think that being a history major leads to nothing, but I plan to use this degree to pursue a law degree. I have no doubt that I will contribute to society.

Guys & Girls:
Students here are getting a great education and one of the most difficult academic institutions in America. Diversity allows many to learn to accept and educate themselves about all people. The night scene is great, food outstanding, and of course there's nothing like Wisconsin sports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On Wisconsin!!!!

Big Ten Pub Madison, WI Great food, fun, energy, and atmosphere. Gotta love Madison!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Guys & Girls:
There's a wide variety of students. I wouldn't say there's a typical guy or girl. I think anyone can find someone they relate to and enjoy being around there. There are plenty of student orgs that you can attend to help find like minded individuals. Definitely one of the pluses of UW being a large school.

Game days and sports are huge, as you see a sea of red and white heading to Camp Randall or the Kohl center. School spirit will happen even if you're not a huge sports fan. The athletic facilities are fantastic as well including two pools and group fitness classes etc.

Wisconsin Colleges offers various of sports, fencing even! It is enjoyable to become part of the fans for basketball games, soccer games, and many other sports. Coaches are the best, they seek the what's best for the team. The co-ed soccer team is amazing, nobody is left out and everybody plays on the field. Much respect is given to those in athletics because University of Wisconsin competes with the best!

The options are very expensive. If you are wealthy, then the dining is fine, but affordable and healthy choices are not easy to find.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
