The university is large and attracts a huge variety of people from all over the state, the country, and the world. Madison has a reputation as a welcoming, open-minded community that takes pride in making its global university community feel at home.

The bus is surely the most convenient way for students, even those with cars who prefer not to drive downtown, to get to campus. Most students live close or relatively close, so the bus is a free option (comes free with enrollment) and the lines are great, and generally coincide well with class times.

Overall the UW system has a pretty good computer/tech area. the wifi is a little tricky to connect to sometimes. but rarely do i have a problem.

I think security on campus is wonderful! then again, i dont do drugs, drink, or party hard. I dont like when others do and they do get in trouble when they are too loud, drunk underage, or high.

Parking permits are available for a fee for any student; but there arent always spots to park and some parking lots are not available with those permits for students.
College Senior 2012-10-31T21:34:38Z
Parking is frustrating and can be hard to get on campus. You will need to pay for a permit if there are any spots left. Many people will park off campus and then ride the bus to campus

You are in Wisconsin, the weather is constantly changing.

The food is good and there are many choices both with the food program and there are many resteraunts on campus and within walking distance.

Health & Safety:
It's a safe campus but people should take precautionary measures like walking in groups, locking their doors, always contact people of when they've reached home safely and calling SafeWalks for safe escorts home.

A lot of ethnic restaurants, conveniently located on State St and around the Capitol. The cost is higher around the Capitol but State St is pretty commonly priced throughout. I love Doty's burgers because this place has the best burgers in town! I love the vegetarian and vegan options and my friends always say the meat is always cooked properly.

People come from all over the US and the world to study at UW-Madison, but most people here are white. Wisconsin is the second most white state, where Minnesota is first. We have a lot of ignorant people here and many white people here think that all other races must be international. It's hard to think about the diversity of Madison and seeing how little diversity we have on campus.

I live in the dorm and work on campus. I work, sleep, and go to school. I have never been pressured to go to parties or do drugs.

I am doing a Physics major on a possible premed route. They are very food at letting you know exactly what you need and the registration process has been good

Greek life here is pretty big, but it's rarely a problem if you're not in a sorority or fraternity. I have a lot of friends in both, and it's not an issue. Frats have parties all the time, and girls (sorority or not) can pretty much always get in. Sororities don't really throw parties, and if they do, it's usually a social with a fraternity. People involved in Greek Life aren't seen as better or worse than those who aren't; it's just a personal choice whether or not you want to be involved.

Varsity sports here are pretty huge, especially football. Game days are insane; and the stadium is always packed. People tailgate all day in preparation, and have TONS of school spirit. The athletic facilities are pretty great; the SERF (Southeast Recreational Facility) has four floors, with tons of rooms of different equipment, as well as daily classes like kickboxing and Zumba. It's super easy to get involved with club and intramural sports, and a lot of people form teams.

The authority figures here aren't out to get you; but they will if you're being stupid. The House Fellows (RA's) vary from floor to floor, but many, for the most part, are pretty relaxed. They won't come looking for trouble. If you're drinking in the dorms, don't be playing loud music, and always have your door closed. As for parties, the main reason they get busted is noise violations. Generally the cops will just tell everyone to leave.
College Sophomore 2012-10-13T02:51:11Z
Every dorm has a House Fellow, a person that enforces the rules. If at least one roommate is under 21, alcohol is not permitted in that room.

At the University, you only find drugs if you are looking to find drugs. I myself am not a drug user, and not came across drugs.

There is a lot to do. Parties can be found on every street; there is never a bland moment.

I think for the campus overall the diversity is not bad. but in my major(where I spend and socialize most) it is a pretty big slope to white males form a rural background. But I am a blackfemale from a large city.
There is a large Mong community here and that makes for a change but once again that is in the overall campus.
I have not run into any racial issues though I know of some who have. but the college is really on top of trying to take care of it as soon as they know about it. the problem lies more with people (maybe) not coming foward.
There is has been a push to keep moving in the right direction of having a more diverse campus and CNR majors.
College Senior 2012-10-09T12:15:04Z
Has a great blend of cheap or higher scale. and Also of the different or the same old. Coming from a large city I wish there were more places ans some a little closer ( its like a 15 min drive to Burger King) But i will not lie it is much better than I thought it would be when i looked into comeing to this rural area. And a lot more diversity as well. Walking down one street you can get Koren, Chinease, Pizza, Tacos, Pasta, Burgers, Japanese, All day breakfast, Family Style, and Greek
