Walking down State Street just off campus from Madison one finds a lot of diversity in the great variety of ethnic restaurants/trailers and the many different stores and local shops. People play music on the street. There are several venues to watch musical performances including the Union's theater, Madison Overture Center for the Arts, The Orpheum, and The Majestic. Famous bands stop in Madison for shows. The Overture Center puts on famous musicals that are top quality.

Wifi is available all over but sometimes the Resnet internet service is very frustrating. Overall, it hardly ever has problems, but when it does it is incredibly inconvenient. Computers are available all over, and they work very well. Printing is also available. The network is usually very speedy although it slows a bit when many people are on it at night.

Greatest School for Undergraduate Work – I love it in Madison. It is a great research university and very prestigious because of that, especially because it is a public university. The sports here are amazing, and the marching band is the best in the country.

Great Party School – UW Madison has many parties, especially on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The city really wakes up at night. Buses stay running late so one can ride back home. Also, there are several taxi services like Saferide which aid students in returning home safely.

Better Than I Expected – It is ala carte which turned out to be more cost effective for me. They have pretty good options to eat healthily, especially if you are vegetarian or vegan.

Not Very Strict – I haven't noticed the school being any more strict than any other school, the rules seem pretty standard.

Lots to Do – There is a lot to do here. Lots of resturaunts and shops near the campus, plus it's not too far from parks and lake Michigan.

There is NO parking! Most people take the bus or get dropped off because parking is awful. If your driving I would definitely get there 30 minutes early just to get a parking spot.

Health & Safety:
Safety Concerns – One of the main safety concerns comes from the busy streets in Madison, at least from my experience. While there are areas that can be dangerous to be walking alone (such as lakeshore path), another concern is primarily streets surrounding state street. Many students can get out of hand if drinking and, while walking past them, there lies a possibility of being harassed. There is also a possibility of being harassed by some of the homeless as well. Although, many of the students and homeless are harmless, I have seen many people feel threatened. Sometimes they have a reason to, and other times they are overreacting. Nonetheless there is always a possibility while living in such a busy city of feeling threatened in one way or the other.

Downtown Madison – Downtown Madison offers many shops and restaurants to satisfy a variety of fashions and cravings. Its malls are excellent features as well, and they are only a bus ride away from campus.

Anything You Want! Madison has a wide variety of dining options. On State Street, you can find anything from Tibetan cuisine to amazing burgers. There are restaurants for every price range and occasion. It's hard to eat in the dining halls because there are so many options off-campus!

So Much to Do – Madison is a huge city and it is the capital of Wisconsin. It is a beautiful city. The only problem is there is always construction and renovations going on which take away from the beauty of the city. There are tons of things you can do including: shopping, dining, sailing, fishing, hiking, and many other activities.

Parties Are the Way to Go – Parties are way cheaper. They usually charge you 5 dollars for a cup and you can drink as much as you want with that cup. Also, you don't have to wait in long lines outside the bars to get in.

Buses Are the Best Option – All University of Wisconsin students receive a free bus pass that will take them anywhere in the city. All the buses numbered in the 80s are free for everyone in the city.

Health & Safety:
Great Safety – I've never felt unsafe here on campus. There's a SAFEwalk service that will walk you back anytime at night. Everyone on campus is so smart that people dont generally infringe on other peoples safety. Even though the partying sometimes gets out of hand, everyone has resources and people to get them home, on campus, safely. I've left my doors unlocked plenty of times in the dorms and never had a problem.

Lots of Wisconsities – The majority of our student body is made up of white students who grew up in WI or surrounding midwestern states. We do take pride in our large diversity. There are plenty of exchange students and many ethnicities and races represented, but a lot of students are still proud, Wisconsin born-and-raised students.

Always Changing – No matter what the weather is doing it is always beautiful. With beautiful warm fall & spring days spending time outside is enjoyable. In the winter there's always snow which is great too! With such a variety of weather, its never boring here!

Little Role in Everyday Activities – Sometimes they'll host little events for their philanthropy but asides from that they don't have a role on campus unless you're a part of the greek life. Sure, the fraternities host parties on weekends, but Greek life isn't that predominant.

Badger Pride! I love my college and everything about it! I didn't know anything about this college or have any "pride" before coming here, but a month later I was like a different person.

Try a Lot of Classes – Figure out what you're into! I only just figured out what I wanted to major in about a month ago, so I can't rate this.

It Depends on YOU – It all depends on the class, professor, personal interest, etc. The registration process gives students with more credits an earlier registration date, which may seem unfair to freshmen, but it's the most logical way of doing it. There are hundreds of little hidden study areas around campus, so look out for random locations!
College Junior 2012-06-16T20:45:58Z
Lots of Variety! There are a lot of under 21 kids sneaking into certain bars, but I'm holding off on bars until I'm 21, but there are plenty of bars open for people to go to. I like the atmosphere at house and greek life parties better anyways! If you're not into that scene, there are plenty of other activities going on at night run by student organizations and other groups.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
