Madison is an awesome party school and has plenty of things to keep yourself busy. State Street is only a couple blocks from campus and has a great variety of food and shopping places.

Most people here take education very seriously. Professors are knowledgeable. Our university is well-known especially for education and natural resources programs.

I'm a music education major and the program is excellent. We have top-notch professors, facilities, and equipment. There is always room for improvement, though.

Health & Safety:
There are blue light alert poles all over campus. Police are visible, and streets and parking lots are well-lit. Campus cab is available if you don't feel safe walking.

I got some student aid. Your application for the university automatically applies you for a bunch of freshman scholarships, but check within your major department for additional ones.

Parking sucks but that's life.

We have a drinking culture here. It's Wisconsin.

We are pretty tolerant but not very diverse.

Weather sucks but that's what we get; it's Wisconsin

Summers in Madison are short-lived, but amazing! Of course, that might just be in contrast to our unbearably long and cold winters. There's too much snow and the wind coming off the lake doesn't help matters. That being said, it does help that UW-Madison keeps the sidewalks clear of snow starting as soon as it starts snowing so students can safely get to classes.

There is a drug scene on campus, but it's much less noticeable than the drinking scene. You can go out every night to drink and not see any drugs. But, of course, it does depend on who you hang out with. There is a drug scene, but you almost have to go looking for it. I would say drugs are not a large issue on campus.

The campus dining options were revamped last year (2012) and now include more options than you can get a grasp of in one visit to a dining hall. The choices are diverse, and there are plenty of ways to get your fill without breaking the bank. My only complaint is that some of the smaller dining halls have strange hours that didn't always work around my schedule when I was eating in the dorms.

We have students from around the world attending UW-Madison. I've had classes where there were at least as many white students as there were non-white students (or less, possibly), even in large classes. We have many student organizations dedicated to allowing and spreading diversity. Diversity is here, and Wisconsin is very accepting of it.

Computer labs are good. Printing on campus is good. My dorm has terrible phone and computer issues. It's new and they are working out the "bugs".
College Sophomore 2013-10-22T13:31:39Z
Sports are huge at UW. Great workout facilities. School spirit is best in US.
College Sophomore 2013-10-22T13:28:14Z
I am in a great dorm. It has all amenities one would want--food court, convenience store, health clinic, computer lab, security.

My freshman year I had my tuition almost completely covered with financial aid. Still, that left me with high-priced housing to take care of on my own, and my second year, I barely got half of my tuition in financial aid. Student loans were offered in an amount that would cover all my costs, but student loans are scarily expensive in the long run.

Health & Safety:
For the most part, I feel pretty safe here. But with a recent string of robberies, assaults, and guns being fired, I'm very uneasy walking alone after dark.
College Sophomore 2013-10-14T01:30:42Z
Computer labs on campus are pretty much as expected. There definitely aren't enough convenient places to print though if you don't have time to get over to one of the libraries.
College Sophomore 2013-10-14T01:29:09Z
I never lived in campus housing...
Sorry, there are no reviews.
