Student Center – The student center is brand new and really nice. There are two levels for students to study. also, rooms are provided for group study, but there are also quiet areas as well.

Health & Safety:
Personal Safety – generally feel safe, however there are parts of campus you do not want to walk around alone at night.

Large campus that makes an otherwise small town bug and bustling with plenty of excitement and stuff to do.....

No Room for Boredom – Great campus, plenty of activities (plays, theater, sailing, etc...) cultures and state of the art athletics...Large undergrad courses, much cozier for grad students; large Asian community (probably second to Caucasian), slowly trying to bring diversity to campus. Best public university in the state! Highly coveted admission among Wisconsinites.

As a big ten team, UW Madison has wonderful fans and an excellent football team. Go Badgers!

Classes and People – I enjoy my classes and the variety of people that I get to meet. The social environment is enjoyable no matter what life style you live in. State St has to be one of the most traveled places.

Cold and Windy – It's snows a lot. University Ave and Johnson St make wind tunnels. It's cold, but everyone bundles up and enjoys the outdoors. Most people come from cold climates so they are used to it.

Punishments Are Efficient but Rarely Given – There are punishments in place for offenders, but usually the offenders aren't caught. Basically, the general rule is don't do something blatantly stupid and you won't get in trouble.

I really don't know much about the Greek Life on campus. The housing is all in one area though with many people in each house. They throw parties and other events but that's about all that i know

Transportation for nightlife is very good. There are safe ride cabs and buses all around campus along with safe walk. Nightlife here includes parties, many bars around the area, but there are also many other non-party events such as those hosted at the Union. Movies are provided for free on most saturday nights and if you're in the dorms, many movie nights and free food nights are an option.

Guys & Girls:
Variety of Students – There is no "typical student" at Madison. Everyone is very different when it comes to dress and interests. Thats what makes this campus so nice is that there is a great variety of people with many interests. No two people are alike on this campus.

Madison Has Is All – The Madison area provides all types of events and entertainment. Everyday there is something to do at the Union. During the summer there are concerts on the square, the farmer's market and plenty of areas to just bask in the sun. Madison has multiple shopping facilities including Hildale, and East Towne and West Towne Malls. As for outdoors activities, Madison is surrounded by Lake Menona and Lake Mendota, both which provide area for swimming, sailing, kayaking, etc. Culturally, Madison provides events for all cultures. My favorites end of summer activity is the Taste of Madison held on the square. Finally, the safety on campus and surrounding areas is good. There are safety lights and safe walk available, also safe ride taxis and buses.

Madison Is Where It Is at! I love it at Madison. Because campus is so big there are activities for everyone. Plus, the sporting events have an atmosphere like no other. When I was thinking about where to go I feared that Madison might be too much for me but I quickly found my place here and now I cannot imagine being happy anyplace else.

Its All About the Booze – At Madison, although drug use is around, user primarily keep to themselves. The exceptions being halloween and Mifflin. Drinking however is far more prevalent and in the open. Students "pregame" for everything under the sun.

Badgers Games Are So Fun! I loved having season tickets to the football games! They were so fun and the crowd was so involved! The Band is also amazing :)

Very Interesting, Mainly Ethnic – The meals all seem fairly healthy but a lot of them are extremely weird looking. I'm used to a lot of plain foods and the items they offer that fit that category get very repetitive.

Pretty Easy, Always Busy Though – The computers and printing are pretty easy to use. But there are so many students that it is very hard to get on to a computer especially around midterm madness and finals week.

Bus and Bike – Students get to ride the bus for free, the only thing is that they are rarely on time and are unavailable early in the morning.
That is why I bike everywhere-rain or shine!

Coasties Everywhere! I never knew what a coastie was until I came to Madison. Coasties are kids from either the west coast or east coast. They are mostly from wealthy families and spend their parents money like nobody else. Otherwise, there are the native hippies and the beer-drinking jocks who do nothing but party.

Many Styles of Architecture – The campus has many buildings built over the last 200 years. Some are very new, others very old. The facilities, however, are all in working order and get the job done. There is alot of construction going on. They say there are two seasons in Madison- Winter and Construction.
Recent Alumnus 2010-04-24T19:47:22Z
An honest opinion – I'm a huge fan of the UW, and being here I have found almost everything to be perfect minus the winter months and the extreme lack of diversity - and for whatever diversity there is, it is not a melting pot. Being Chinese-American, and very enveloped in both racial groups (although more so with Caucasian friends) I've noticed that the majority of black students on campus are athletes. A few years back, UW Madison even photo shopped a black student into their brochure in order to attract more black students. Essentially, the student body is average Caucasian students from
small towns with closed minds. This is not to say that there aren't plenty of students with open minds looking to find new friends, learn about different cultures, and change their worldviews. Currently, I live with a black guy, and three white guys making our household one of the most diverse on campus -- at least the top 1% for household diversity. This shows how unlikely it is for people to make friends of different races, so if you are coming here to learn about different cultures, and make life long friends of different races - it definitely can be done but it will be much more difficult when compared to other schools such as UCLA.

If you don't absolutely need a vehicle, don't bring it. Parking on campus is quite expensive and can be hard to find, depending on the area of campus in which you live. However, if you live off campus, parking is much better.

Not Very Strict – Regarding social life and rule inforcement in the dorms:
Many people drink in the dorms. As long as you basically keep to yourself and aren't making too much noise, there will *usually* be no problems. It does depend on the RA, however. If one gets caught either twice or three times drinking in the dorm, they WILL get kicked out of university housing.
When it comes time for finals, there are 22-hour quiet hours, which is nice for studying, but at the same time can make it difficult for socializing in the common areas. The quiet hours are often strictly enforced.
Regarding social life and rule enforcement around campus:
Campus police are very friendly. If you don't give them a reason to be strict, they won't be. For example, during a block party, don't drink in the street, and they will leave you alone. In fact, they are typically very freindly.

The Pros and Cons of Madison's Apartments – Madison has a wide variety of apartments, and that variety is always growing. However, the renting process begins right after the school year starts up, which sometimes makes it difficult for people to find a good apartment even after just a few months into the school year. The quality is generally good, with good landlords. There are apartments grouped together in the southeast area, as well as spread across the other parts of campus, allowing students to find an apartment that is close to the class buildings for their major.

Tons of Student Orgs – There is such a variety of places to go and groups to join that it allows students to find people with simular intrests.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
