Football fans will find a home away from home at UW-Madison. For the past few years the team has been really great and has made it to a few Rose Bowls. I gained a lot of pride in my school's athletics and became a football fan during my freshman year (I had no desire to watch or understand the game until I got to Madison). Hockey and basketball are also really huge! I give it a grade of A- though because the school lacks spirit for women's sports. I know that's how it is across the board for most schools and in professional sports but it was still something I noticed. Also, while there is great school spirit, I lost some respect for the student body when I heard them yelling incredibly rude and unclassy chants at each other and at our opponents. I can understand that competition can bring out the worst in people, but it really did not reflect the good qualities about students on campus. You can even hear the lewd comments and cheers while watching the games on TV. Simply put - it makes us look bad.
