All incoming freshmen are clustered in one of three buildings—BPS, BWC, or on the first floor of New Hall. This ensures that all freshmen get to know people from their class and live with students who know as little about the school as they do. There are upperclassman RAs to help out the freshmen, of course. More freshmen end up in BPS than in BWC, although the rooms in BWC are much bigger and nicer. Since the campus is so small, all five dorm buildings are close to the center of things. The residential village, across the street from campus, offers dozens of student houses. The quality and condition for each varies. Some, such as Wicks, Hobson, and Musser, are very well kept, and others are not.

After freshman year, students are given the choice to live wherever they like, although their chances of getting what they want lies with the room lottery selection. Naturally, upperclassmen have the first pick. And, except in the freshman dorms and special interest houses, students can “squat” or keep the room they have. However, the really good rooms are usually in the special interest houses, where one has to earn a spot. But fear not, each student is guaranteed four years of on-campus residency.

Housing on Campus

Living on campus is the best option for ursinus college. There are many upperclassmen dorm options, including individual houses or dorms. The freshman dorms vary from singles to quads, all are very nice. There are two kitchens per floor on the largest freshmen residence, and free laundry rooms. The social atmosphere is fun, and there is always something to do on or off campus. There are many campus held activities along with socials and off campus activities. The cost is somewhat high, but there is a lot of financial aid options and scholarship opportunities. The housing process is easy, and roommates usually end up being paired well.

Freshman Housing Is Not That Bad

Yes the freshman housing is old, however it is the best location on campus. It is closest to everything, and it is nice to live with only freshman your first year it allows for more bonding. Being a sophomre this coming year I am going to miss being down the hall from all my friends, now we are spread out all over campus. Housing selection for upperclassmen is done through a lottery system, and leaves very few options for sophomores. All the singles will be taken by seniors, any suites in reimert will be gone, and suites in New and North are taken by seniors and juniors leaving a bunch of triples and doubles, in houses on main street and not the ones across from the school either, those are all squatted by greek organizations.

Fortunately, there are plenty of housing options at Ursinus, but not all students have access to the finest houses or dormitories.

Facts

Room Types		Richter-North suites typically house four students in two singles and a double. But the College has said that the doubles are large enough to be triples, so some suites now house five. You will most likely have at least one roommate—up to 30 percent of Ursinus rooms are triples. The new dorm has singles and doubles, as well as suites.
Bed Types		Most are single beds that can be turned into bunk beds. There are also a few lofts here and there.

Also Available		There are quiet houses/areas and substance-free living options. There are also special interest and special application houses, mostly located on Main Street. Some of the more popular are: Musser Hall, where residents promote international awareness; Hobson House, where students initiate and spearhead community service projects; Zwingli, a creative, literary-run house; and Wicks, the senior honor house.

Bathrooms and hallways in the dorms are cleaned each day Monday through Friday. The houses on Main Street have a cleaning service every other day.

Did You Know?

Ursinus College is featured in Montgomery County Ghost Stories due to numerous residence halls being supposedly haunted. Strange activity has been reported in Clamer Hall, two ghosts are said to haunt Hobson Hall, and some residents of Reimert Hall have reported being woken up by a ghost tapping on a window. Shreiner Hall and Richter-North are also rumored to be haunted.
