Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Drug use is definitely not prevalent on campus. Hardly anyone seems to be heavily involved in drugs, and the substance of choice seems to be alcohol. If tobacco and caffeine are considered drugs, then there is a bit of that. Caffeine is consumed in large quantities through coffee and soda. And there are a fair amount of smokers on campus, but all campus buildings are smoke-free. Chewing tobacco, meanwhile, is very rare.

While alcohol is prevalent, abuse is not much of a problem. Marijuana is probably the most accessible drug on campus, but students need to know the right people to get some. And most people who smoke pot do it at places where they are not likely to get caught. As far as harder drugs go, those are pretty rare. A student can go four years without seeing drugs on campus or walking into a dorm room and seeing someone injecting, smoking, or swallowing pills. Because Ursinus is in a residential neighborhood, it is highly uncommon to run into serious drug users on the street. Students face little, if any, pressure to use drugs. The College ensures that its students are independent from the moment they step on the campus by giving them the right to make a lot of choices for themselves. The students here treat one another with the same sort of respect.

Fairly clean school in terms of drugs, so things tend to be safe.

Drug Safety

There isnt that much drug use, aside from pot. there is basically no peer pressure, with alcohol or drugs. Policy enforcement is strict with the open container policy, but other than that they give students a lot of freedom.

Partying

I've found drinking to be much more popular on campus but, that isn't to say I haven't seen my share of bongs over the past year. There's a small subgroup of students who regularly smoke, definitely but, not so much that they are necessarily worthy of the 'stoner' label. Hard drugs are virtually absent and the only prescription use of I've seen is that of Adderol during finals. As expected, drinking is big but, with the right attitude towards both, it isn't difficult to balance studying and partying.
