Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students genuinely feel safe at Ursinus. There have been a few incidents of theft on campus, but the statistics have been declining every year. And to be realistic, most of these cases usually occur when students leave their doors unlocked, allowing easy entry into any room. On the whole, however, students are generally satisfied with their safety. In terms of students’ health, they are in good hands here. The medical director in charge of the Wellness Center is an MD, and there is also a hospital nearby, which provides a broader range of health-care services.

Security is always present, and those who work in the campus safety department are very friendly and genuinely concerned with the safety of the students. The officers are not a sort of collegiate Gestapo, ready to break down any doors because someone left a beer bottle out in the open. In the event of an emergency, there are phones in every building so students can quickly reach the campus safety department. In regards to everyday security, students get two keys—one to enter the residential building in which they live, and the other to get into their room. Even being as close to a residential neighborhood as Ursinus is, students seem to feel very safe.

Campus Safety

Campus Safety is very prevalent on campus. They are always friendly and will help you out in any situation. They are here not to stop the fun but to ensure everyone is safe and that things do not get out of hand. The officers are older men and have no affiliation to the police.

Ursinus Safety

I have never felt unsafe on campus but I have heard one or two unsettling stories third person. I usually keep my doors locked as a precaution but I know plenty who don't and have never had an issue. The surrounding area is very suburban and friendly. The security guards on duty are sweet and helpful.

What You See Is What You Get

Since Ursinus is such a small school, you can't really expect much from the safety office there. Though I do appreciate that the office is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, I really don't see officers walking around to make sure students are safe that often, unless you live in one of the big dorms. However, I have never had an issue with feeling unsafe on campus.
