Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The parties, like the college, remain essentially local. The No. 1 spot off campus for drinking is The Trappe Tavern. Unless a gaggle of bars and pubs open that are as close to campus and as cheap as The Trappe, this place will remain the staple for Ursinus students interested in drinking. The Trappe is walkable, but it’s a long one, so it’s best to have a designated driver. That being said, there really is not that much to do in Collegeville. Philly can be reached by public transportation, but the ride is a bit long. Still, sadly, Philadelphia remains the best bet for Ursinus students looking for things to do.

On-campus parties must be registered with the Residence Hall Association, but, otherwise, it seems as if anything goes. If a party gets too rowdy, the Collegeville police or campus safety will break it up. Parties have to end at a certain time, and the hosts have to clean up immediately after the place is emptied. If any of the specifications are not met, then the party-throwers can be penalized—not being able to host any more parties for the semester is a common penalty. For students looking for non-alcohol-related activities, there are regular on-campus events, but those not interested in drinking usually just tend to hang out with their friends on campus.

Can Get Monotonous

All the parties are on campus for everyone under 21. Those 21 and over party on campus and also go to a local bar called the Trappe Tavern, most known for silver coin night and pitchers and wings. The parties are mostly in suites in the upperclassmen hall Reimert. There are house parties in the houses along main street owned by sororities and fraternities. Most of those are closed to a select group until 10 and then they open for everyone. The party scene does tend to get monotonous, as it is a lot of the same thing every weekend. It is mostly the same groups that party all the time, and being a small school you see a lot of the same people out every time. It is nice thateverything is on campus so no worries about how your getting there and driving issues. None the less campus safety is very lenient with alcohol rules, the main one is no open container outside of a suite, and none in the freshman dorms. I would say Ursinus students do know how to have a good time.

Go to Reimert

The only bar around is crowded. Also, Reimert is where everyone can hangout. The cops are becoming a little too involved on campus though.

Since kegs aren’t allowed on...

Since kegs aren’t allowed on campus, we purchase massive quantities of cheap beer and have trash cans with ice throughout the houses, which is nice because it avoids a line for a keg. Before the parties open, only the hosting organization is there. After that, the houses can sometimes get very crowded.

What is the party scene like on campus?

What’s the best way to get to the popular nightlife spots?

Facts

Club Crawler

The greatest resource for nightlife is Philadelphia, so if you’re looking to go to a club, you’ll probably have to go there. The biggest hurdle is that the city is about a 40-minute drive.

Bar Prowler

There aren’t a ton of bars close to campus. And of the handful nearby, students mainly frequent The Trappe Tavern.

Closing Time

Some close at 12 a.m., others at 2 a.m., depending on the day of the week

Organization Parties

For alcoholic parties, all you need to do is stroll up and down Main Street on Friday and Saturday nights or walk around Reimert. The fraternities and sororities are always hosting parties, except during rush, which is a dry period.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

King of Prussia Mall

There are more than 400 restaurants and stores at this mall, a 25-minute drive from campus. An amazing amount of money can be spent here, but sometimes it’s fun to just walk around and window shop in one of the best malls in the country. Be sure to check out Neiman Marcus, but don’t break anything! You may not be able to afford the tab. The Cheesecake Factory is an excellent (if not crowded) restaurant to go to.
