Half and Half

Most of the parties are hosted by the Greek Life, except in Reimert where sports teams act like their own forms of frats/sororities. It doesn't really matter whether your involved or not, there is not much elitism associated with being Greek or with not being Greek. For the most part, Greek parties are open to the campus.

The Epitome of the Small Town

Collegeville, so named for Ursinus College being there, is a comfortable, small town environment. With a farmer's market to the famed Collegeville Diner, the best place for a UC student to go for excitement is the Wawa located half a mile from campus. Sure, there's the dollar store and a CVS for convenience, but other than what's offered on campus, there isn't much going on in the town. The locals aren't a fan of the loud parties held at UC traditionally 3 nights a weekend, but there isn't much else to do, unless you have a car. With one, you're only a 45 minute drive away from Philly, a 30 minute drive to King of Prussia Mall, and a 15 minute drive to the Wegman's. There's a small children's park by Marzella's if you're that desperate for fun. Otherwise, stay on campus.

This school is NOT racially or ethnically diverse, by any means. Don't let the photographs in the view books fool you.

A Little Backwards, but Not That Strict

The school is very open to alcohol. They don't really bust anybody unless you are a freshman throwing up. The school is a bit backwards though when it comes to drugs such as pot. They are stricter about it. It makes absolutely no sense since it is a liberal arts school. You'd think that the school officials would be intelligent enough to know the facts about alcohol and pot, and realize that alcohol is the one they should watch out for, while pot is the one they shouldn't care about. The students who do smoke pot generally are the better students, while the students who get s***-faced every weekend tend to be the ones who cheat their way through classes and barely pass.

Financial Aid Is Fabulous

Although Ursinus is an expensive school, I received a very generous financial aid offering that was based on both academic achievement and financial need.

Campus Dining

Although campus dining at Ursinus has improved significantly over the past couple of years, there is still not enough variety of healthy food options.

Campus Housing Is Decent

Fortunately, there are plenty of housing options at Ursinus, but not all students have access to the finest houses or dormitories.

Beautiful Ursinus

Ursinus College is such a beautiful college. With the recent building additions and upgrades the campus blends the new with the old. The Athletic Center is both nice and useful. It has everything that both the student-athlete and the normal "gym-goer" could need. Also the dorms are pretty nice. We all know that college is college and can't be glorious, but Ursinus provides many housing options that can fit any type of personality. The library is the only building that I think could use some updating. The tables and chairs are very old and uncomfortable making it very hard to study there for hours on end. There is always activities going on at Ursinus, whether it is a sporting event or just music playing from the middle of campus. There is truly something for everyone to do all the time. The students are always busy doing what they like to do.

Students at Ursinus are generally pretty good-looking people who are out to work hard and have a good time. For the most part, students do well in school and try hard to get good grades, but they also like to have fun. Some people are heavy drinkers, and for them, the drinking scene is great. But I don’t drink, and I have found plenty of friends to just hang out with, and we have just as much fun.

I love the guys on campus. A lot of them are smart, athletic, and pretty hot.

The guys and girls on this campus are usually pretty friendly. A lot of them are smart, too, and this makes them even more attractive. There’s always going to be a fair share of beautiful girls, handsome guys, ugly people, and everyone else in between. But the people on this campus are outgoing and intelligent, and as a result, pretty damn attractive.

The campus is so small that it makes it a bit more difficult for there to be one-night stands. Word spreads around fast, and unless you had your one-nighter completely in the dark, you’ll definitely see who you spent that night with before the week is over. It can be a little embarrassing sometimes.

There are a lot of good-looking people on campus, and the best part is that most of them are usually smart and friendly, which is a bonus. It’s a small campus, so it can be a bit intimidating because on any given day, there is always the chance that you’ll meet someone who has previously rejected you.

The dorms are really great. The closets are a good size, and the bathrooms are always extremely clean. For freshmen, there are two dorms, and 44 freshmen also live in the new dorm. For upperclassmen, there is the new dorm, Richter-North, Reimert, and the houses. I would stay away from Reimert if you aren’t into the party scene because that’s where a lot of the parties happen. But even then, the people who live there love it.

I have never felt as though I were...

I have never felt as though I were in danger at Ursinus. Since the campus is so small and secluded, the College is able to keep the students under control without having to worry about violence from the surrounding town. The police and fire stations are located very close to the school, and students can call campus safety at any hour of night for an escort back to their dorms. Even though my friends and I will often meet one another if we are going to have to walk in the dark, I’ve never heard of any reason why this would be necessary.

The teachers are one of my favorite things about Ursinus. They are all very friendly and always open to helping you. I love the fact that all of my teachers know my name, and they get to know the students on personal levels. The workload is harder than high school, but it is manageable. College is supposed to be a lot of work, and it is, but it’s not impossible.

The teachers are so much more than...

The teachers are so much more than teachers—they are mentors. I respect and look up to them. They always invite students into their offices for extra help or just to chat, and they even invite you to their homes for meals.

Not Very Diverse

People are generally accepting of most things. But there are bunch of ignorant pricks who think they are open minded but really aren't.

Ursinus Academic Pride

The best program offered here is the biology/pre-med program. My school is excellent in the sciences, although it is a liberal arts school. The professors all have their doctorates or higher, and are highly qualified in their fields.

Freshman dorms are dry, meaning...

Freshman dorms are dry, meaning there is no alcohol there. If it is found, usually people will get in trouble but not serious trouble. The college is strict when it comes to people caught in the act of drinking underage. They are given one warning, and then they are often kicked out of school.
