Campus Housing at Ursinus College

Hit or miss. . .

If you are in one of the large brand new dorms (North or New) that are centrally located, housing can be a definite plus. If you get shafted into living in a house far away from campus on main street, housing can be a different story. Freshman housing is decent, dorms are centrally located and not horrible. The lottery system is a bid complicated but overall there is always an opportunity to be away from loud partying areas if you need to be or in the middle of them if you want to be. Compared to other campuses, the dorms on the whole are not as nice, and do not have as large of rooms or as good of lounge facilities.

The best part of Ursinus College

The B&E (Business and Economics) department is fantastic, assuming you aren't stuck with an adjunct professor which seem to be becoming more frequent. The professors are fair, great teachers, available and for the most part not that challenging. This is a department where you can learn a lot and still come out with a great GPA!

The political science department shines as one of the best departments outside of the sciences. The teachers are incredibly smart and help you learn a lot, however unlike the B&E department, this major is incredibly challenging at Ursinus. You will learn a lot but if you plan on graduating with a 4.0 major GPA, you will have to work hard or go to a different schools. Some professors in this department seem to be morally opposed to giving A's. . .

Overall, most professors are phenomenal and the small discussion based classes are a lot of fun. On one hand its great to get a grade boost for participation and be able to ask a million questions in class but on the other hand, don't think you can skip out on classes. Small class sizes reveal any frequent skippers and a good portion of professors will enforce the absence policy (Miss more than 5 classes and you are in danger of failing). If you like great professors and individual attention with good discussion, Ursinus is the place for you!

Not to Shabby for a School of 2,000

Our small school takes a lot of pride in sports. In fact, a lot of student athletes are also majoring in Exercise Sports and Science. A majority of students are involved in sports and those who are not definitely come out to support their friends who are. The facilities take up a majority of the campus and the coaches are as dedicated as they are genuine.

The Epitome of the Small Town

Collegeville, so named for Ursinus College being there, is a comfortable, small town environment. With a farmer's market to the famed Collegeville Diner, the best place for a UC student to go for excitement is the Wawa located half a mile from campus. Sure, there's the dollar store and a CVS for convenience, but other than what's offered on campus, there isn't much going on in the town. The locals aren't a fan of the loud parties held at UC traditionally 3 nights a weekend, but there isn't much else to do, unless you have a car. With one, you're only a 45 minute drive away from Philly, a 30 minute drive to King of Prussia Mall, and a 15 minute drive to the Wegman's. There's a small children's park by Marzella's if you're that desperate for fun. Otherwise, stay on campus.

Can Get Monotonous

All the parties are on campus for everyone under 21. Those 21 and over party on campus and also go to a local bar called the Trappe Tavern, most known for silver coin night and pitchers and wings. The parties are mostly in suites in the upperclassmen hall Reimert. There are house parties in the houses along main street owned by sororities and fraternities. Most of those are closed to a select group until 10 and then they open for everyone. The party scene does tend to get monotonous, as it is a lot of the same thing every weekend. It is mostly the same groups that party all the time, and being a small school you see a lot of the same people out every time. It is nice thateverything is on campus so no worries about how your getting there and driving issues. None the less campus safety is very lenient with alcohol rules, the main one is no open container outside of a suite, and none in the freshman dorms. I would say Ursinus students do know how to have a good time.

Campus Strictness at Ursinus College

A Little Backwards, but Not That Strict

The school is very open to alcohol. They don't really bust anybody unless you are a freshman throwing up. The school is a bit backwards though when it comes to drugs such as pot. They are stricter about it. It makes absolutely no sense since it is a liberal arts school. You'd think that the school officials would be intelligent enough to know the facts about alcohol and pot, and realize that alcohol is the one they should watch out for, while pot is the one they shouldn't care about. The students who do smoke pot generally are the better students, while the students who get s***-faced every weekend tend to be the ones who cheat their way through classes and barely pass.

UC Sports

Sports at Ursinus receive a pretty good following because you usually know at least one person on the team. The facilities are really nice and are never limited to just athletes. We are D3, so academics always come first. We aren't always the best at sports, but we try hard.

Although Ursinus is an expensive school, I received a very generous financial aid offering that was based on both academic achievement and financial need.

Beautiful Ursinus

Ursinus College is such a beautiful college. With the recent building additions and upgrades the campus blends the new with the old. The Athletic Center is both nice and useful. It has everything that both the student-athlete and the normal "gym-goer" could need. Also the dorms are pretty nice. We all know that college is college and can't be glorious, but Ursinus provides many housing options that can fit any type of personality. The library is the only building that I think could use some updating. The tables and chairs are very old and uncomfortable making it very hard to study there for hours on end. There is always activities going on at Ursinus, whether it is a sporting event or just music playing from the middle of campus. There is truly something for everyone to do all the time. The students are always busy doing what they like to do.

Sports are a very big part of the campus, and since it is such a small school, there are a lot of students actively involved in sports. There are intramurals that are popular, too. There is a lot of practice time and devotion that goes into all the sports, but the students love them.

Sports are a pretty big deal on campus. I would say that a good number of people are involved in them. Football is pretty big, as is basketball, but otherwise, sporting events don’t attract the numbers that they might at other schools. As far as intramural sports, I know that rugby is a big deal here.

Athletics do not get very high priority on this campus. I guess that’s because we’re a Division III school, and a small one at that, but I’d still like to see a bit more campus involvement in regards to showing up at games and cheering for our teams.

Students at Ursinus are generally pretty good-looking people who are out to work hard and have a good time. For the most part, students do well in school and try hard to get good grades, but they also like to have fun. Some people are heavy drinkers, and for them, the drinking scene is great. But I don’t drink, and I have found plenty of friends to just hang out with, and we have just as much fun.

The guys and girls on this campus are usually pretty friendly. A lot of them are smart, too, and this makes them even more attractive. There’s always going to be a fair share of beautiful girls, handsome guys, ugly people, and everyone else in between. But the people on this campus are outgoing and intelligent, and as a result, pretty damn attractive.

The campus is so small that it makes it a bit more difficult for there to be one-night stands. Word spreads around fast, and unless you had your one-nighter completely in the dark, you’ll definitely see who you spent that night with before the week is over. It can be a little embarrassing sometimes.
