Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The good news is that the campus is tiny, so transportation is not required to get around. The farthest building here is Clamer, a 15-minute walk from the center of campus. Otherwise, the dorms are not even a minute from Olin Plaza, and most of the Main Street houses are a five-minute walk. In this sense, a student doesn’t need a car or any sort of public transportation at all. It is a fully residential campus, and everyone pretty much lives here.

The bad news is that if you want to get off campus, options are sorely limited. Public transportation here refers to the sole bus stop in front of campus, and hardly anyone takes the westbound bus. The eastbound bus takes students into the Norristown train station, and from there, it’s a short trip into Philly. Overall, it takes about an hour. From Philadelphia, students can go to New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, wherever. The school does have a few vans for students to use, but they are mostly for field trips. If a student really needs to get around easily, having a car is an absolute must. Without a car, a trip to Philadelphia is fairly easy with public transportation, but public transportation takes longer than driving and costs more.

Best to Have a Car

Collegeville is served by SEPTA (public transportation) but it is certainly not running as often as in the city. The best option is to have a car, which is not generally accepted for freshman. On campus, campus safety will pick you up in golf carts where ever, whenever. Off campus its pretty much up to you.

Parking Is Hard.

The parking is limited and tickets are given out a lot (sometimes for no apparent reason). Also, the bus stop is right in front of the school, but I know people who have had horror stories because they got lost.

Public transportation is very...

Public transportation is very easy. There’s a bus that stops right in front of the school, and it’ll take you to the mall or to the train station to head to downtown Philadelphia. It is very convenient.
