Health & Safety at Whitman College

A+

As Safe as Can Be.

I have walked home from the library at all hours of the night and never felt unsafe at Whitman. For precautionary reasons, Whitman has security staff available late into the night to walk students home if they ever do feel unsafe as well as a blue light system throughout campus. Campus crime is very minimal and the biggest offenders are from the town of Walla Walla and not associated with the college.

Athletics at Whitman College

B+

Student's First, Then Athletes.

At Whitman, varsity sports are seen as truly extracurricular, meaning that student-athletes are fully incorporated in the student body and receive no special treatment. IM sports are very popular and include sports like football, dodgeball, and soccer. The whole campus is pretty athletic, whether it be on the field, at the rock climbing wall, or in the fitness center which is open to the whole Whitman community.

Greek Life at Whitman College

A-

Open Greek Life

The Greek Life at Whitman is what any student wants it to be. Some people are very involved in their fraternity or sorority and others choose to stay Indie, or independent of the Greek system. Regardless of involvement, frat functions are open to the whole campus at 11pm and there are always alternatives, such as off-campus parties and dry events put on by the Whitman Events Board. Students don't generally come to Whitman for the Greek life, but when they realize that the Greek system is very different here than at most other schools, they end up really enjoying it.

Local Atmosphere at Whitman College

A-

Friendliest Small Town.

Walla Walla may be small, but it has everything I need within walking or biking distance. Plus there are some great coffee shops, bookstores, thrift stores, and trendy cafes just a five to ten minute walk from my dorm. The weekend farmer's market on Main Street is a big hit during the fall and spring, as are the local wheat fields, which provide a fantastic place for sunset watching and jamming with friends.
