Small Classes and Caring Professors
The biology department is really good. The professors know and care about their students. Some of the required classes in other departments are a waste of time but some of them are unexpectedly interesting and I ended up learning a lot in classes I had originally dismissed. Classes are small and you cannot get away with skipping or not reading the material. Professors know your name and are very receptive to helping and encouraging you. Developing good writing skills is paramount to an Earlham education, which I've found has done me well post-graduation. The biology department prepared me well for graduate school in microbiology, although I wish independent research had been a stronger focus in our curriculum. Overall, a very good and useful education.

Acceptance All Around
Diversity and acceptance are very high here. There are people from all over the world and from all different types of backgrounds. Lots of east coast hipsters, but also lots of down-to-earth, friendly, active, smart, and normal people. There is a lot of tolerance here for racial and sexual diversity and a lot of conversations revolve around how to extend the accepting Earlham community into the larger community.
