Gonzaga's Stellar Journalism Department
As a major in Journalism, I am happy with Gonzaga's specific program and the ways in which the curriculum overlaps in the community and within related majors. For instance, the Broadcasting majors cooperate with other Communication majors in order to produce our school's television show. Journalism majors such as myself are privy to exciting opportunities within the greater Spokane community; students in my 100 level Journalism class last semester were offered temporary paying jobs by the Spokane Associated Press that allowed those interested to gain pertinent work experience. The three teachers within my field I have met were all excellent mentors and skilled in their specific subjects of expertise. Finally, I was able to begin working for the school's newspaper (the Gonzaga Bulletin), where I am honing my reporter and editor skills for financial compensation.

Spokane Not for the Faint at Heart
While it appears a rather rough neighborhood for students coming from privileged backgrounds (most do: we are a private Catholic school), Spokane gets better with time. While we can't overlook the harsh winters, there are a variety of athletic and artistic endeavors within the community that are easily accessible to students.

Easy If You Had the High School GPA and/Or Grades
Although I had average SAT scores, I graduated from high school with nearly a 4.0, which automatically gave me a large academic stipend from Gonzaga. They met the remainder of my need with alumni grants.
