Local Atmosphere at Colorado College

B+

Conservative, Quiant

Colorado Springs is an interesting place. It is quaint for a large city, much like the CC campus. Coming from the Midwest, it's a completely new experience for me. There is a large military and religious presence in the area, which generally clashes with CC students, however there are still Colorado hippie-types to be found off campus, generally west in Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs. For many big-city-type events, people drive an hour north to Denver, however there is amazing access to outdoor activities in the area.

Off-Campus Dining at Colorado College

A-

Close and Convenient

Colorado College is located in downtown Colorado Springs. There are about 10-15 great restaurants and cafes within a ten minute walk from campus. These range from Japanese, to Greek, to French, to Starbucks. I have been very happy with the off-campus dining availability. Many places also deliver straight to campus, which is convenient. Given the cost of college meal plans, however, eating off campus is often not an option for me.

Nightlife at Colorado College

C

Too Much of a Priority

Because Colorado Springs is a pretty conservative place, most nightlife happens on or very nearby campus. People party pretty hard at CC, which was surprising. People here are smart, but it is sometimes hard to tell because they are talking about skiing and partying all of the time. The college has a very lax underage drinking/drug policy. Essentially, as long as you're not running past the RLC's office smoking pot or playing beer pong with your door in the lobby, you'll be fine.

Computers at Colorado College

A

Inconsistant

Most people at CC bring laptops and a majority of those are Macs. The entire campus is wireless, which is great, however the network can often be finicky. We also have free black and white printing and there are printers in most of the major dorms and in the library. The labs are rarely used because most people have their own computers, so if you didn't have one it wouldn't be difficult. Because of our intimate classes, many professors discourage using laptops to take notes, so most people don't even bring their computers to class.

Campus Dining at Colorado College

A

Vegetarian Friendly!

As a vegetarian, I looked for colleges that were very vegetarian friendly, and CC is certainly that! Rastall, the main buffett-style dining hall, serves many great vegetarian options at every meal. The food here is great!

Diversity at Colorado College

C+

What's Diversity?

CC is definitely not very diverse ethnically or socioeconomically, unless by diverse you mean from different east coast cities. The school does make an effort, but most of our diversity comes from international students. There are also very few conservatives on campus.

Scholarships at Colorado College

A

Merit Scholarship

I was awarded a merit scholarship, which in the main reason I was able to attend CC. These are rare, but they generally offer very good financial aid packages to students who need them. To receive a merit scholarship at CC you should focus on being very well-rounded, your ACT/SAT score is not the more important thing. To receive good financial aid, apply early action or decision.

Guys & Girls at Colorado College

A-

Rugged Preps

People at CC are generally really attractive. There is a lot of North Face, Ugg boots, and messy hair, though.

Athletics at Colorado College

A

Um. . . Hockey?

Being at a small liberal arts school with a D-1, nationally-ranked sports team is really awesome. Tons of people go to hockey games against rival teams like University of Denver. Hockey games are really a point of pride for the school and the town in general. Other sports are fairly unrecognized, unless it's by the players's friends.

Campus Strictness at Colorado College

B+

Responsibility

The college really tries to give students the opportunity to be responsible, mature adults. Strict punishments generally only happen when problems have elevated beyond common sense.

Weather at Colorado College

A+

Sunny

The weather here is amazing. It is almost always sunny and beautiful. We rarely get the large amounts of snow that are seen in Denver. The weather is best in the Fall and Spring when it's a comfortable 60-70 degrees and sunny at all times.
