Not Impossible
GT is a tough school compared to other colleges a student could choose. However, I know people who have a 4.0, get 8 hours of sleep a night, and have an avid social life and do lots of extra curriculars. They just manage their time well and take care of work as it is assigned, leaving enough time to get questions answered. Also, there are lots of tutoring opportunities on campus, weather you are greek or not. If you go to class (and listen), do your homework early enough to ask for help (no shame in that, especially here), and get a good night's sleep before the test you will get A's or B's.

It is what you make of it...
A lot of people complain that the guys are socially inept and that the girls have TBS (Tech b-word Syndrome), but the dating scene is really what you make of it. If you treat people well and leave your dorm every once in a while, it's easy to meet people. Tech has lots of clubs and organizations and thousands of students, take advantage. The ratio is great for the girls, because guys who used to just scout out dates based on looks have to look a little deeper, which helps them experience more personal growth. Guys, if you really want to meet women just be yourselves and don't hide in your shell. Join clubs (especially dance, band, and philanthropy orgs) or go to Ga State or Agnes Scott. Also, if all else fails you at least make some good friends and connections along the way.

Work Hard, Play Hard
Tech students have a "work hard, play hard" attitude. There's lots of fun stuff to do around campus and the rest of Atlanta. while school is tough its not nasty competitive; We are more like comrades than rivals. You don't have to go Greek to have a good time because a lot student organizations (like band) create the same tight nit community, and some have just as many parties.
