Off-Campus Housing at University of Tennessee

A

Living Off-Campus ROCKS

At the University of Tennessee, we have a neighborhood called Fort Sanders. This is where a lot of student choose to live after their freshman year. It is about a 5-10 minute walk to campus and 99% of the people who live here are students. Prices are a little higher here because of its convenient location, but it is way better than trying to park on campus. It is also very easy to find an apartment or rent a house- they are everywhere. I have no complaints, its an easy walk to classes and the bars!

Computers at University of Tennessee

A

A Little Old, but HEY They Are Free

I would say get your own, just because it is easier. BUT, In the library there are tons of desktops (mac and pc) also in most dorms, apartments, and buildings there are computer labs. During finals they can be a little busy, but half of the people are on facebook so just ask them to move. You can also sign out a laptop for 4 hours at a time. If they run out the laptops go on a waiting list, but usually you are fine unless it is finals week. Printing is easy, you can print in any labs or library for $.02 per page for black and white. In science labs printing is free so sneak in. The network is fine, not the fastest ever but not bad at all. Wireless is all over campus(even outside) which is really nice.

Transportation at University of Tennessee

A+

The T Picks You up

We have buses that roam around campus during the day. They come to every stop about every 5-7 minutes. We also have an after hours bus that you call and it comes to pick you up and takes you where you want to go. These are all included in tuition.

Local Atmosphere at University of Tennessee

A

You Will Not Be Bored

In Knoxville, we always have Volunteer sports to watch. We also have some beautiful hiking ranges (we are in the smokey mountains). About an hour away is Gatlinburg which has outlets for shopping. Right next to campus we have world's fair park which is always a good place to have fun with friends and there are always concerts and shows going on. There are tons of bars and local bands, Knoxville has an amazing nightlife. We even have an art museum if that is what you are into.

Campus Strictness at University of Tennessee

B+

Don't Be Stupid

UTK is a dry campus. THIS MEANS that no beer is allowed on campus (rules get blurry on game days). They say you will get busted for being drunk on campus but that has happened plenty of times and I am fine. Basically don't be the idiot that knocks on your RA's room at 3 in the morning and asks them to funnel a beer. If you are going to drink do it, just don't carry a handle of vodka out in the open in your dorm (be sneaky). Close and lock your doors and if someone knocks- hide it. Don't be too loud or you will get a complaint. Don't start a drunken fight and don't light anything on fire and you should be fine.

Overall Experience at University of Tennessee

A+

Proud to Be a VOL!

I didn't want to go to Tennessee, I was basically forced to. But now that I did I am extremely happy and can't see myself anywhere else. There are a ton of people so you have to get out of your dorm and go find friends and opportunities (these don't just fall in your lap). Your mom isn't here so you have to take responsibility for your actions and limit yourself. If you wanted to party every night you could, but you would fail out so I don't suggest it. Grow up, get crazy, but be smart. UT rocks so take advantage of all the opportunities a huge SEC school has to offer.
