It's All Relative

Boston University definitely has it's ups and downs, but it all really depends on your specific circumstance. One thing that is for sure, is that the professors are outstanding. I have never met a college professor that has thus far not kept up with their learning, or was not trying to advance their knowledge in some way. A good professor is one that is always learning themselves, and one that keeps up with current events and new findings. However, the registration process and counseling, for example, is one area that depends on the area of study. A student like myself in Sargent has an adviser that knows their path, and knows the steps and classes the student must take to get there. Yet, a student in the College of Arts and Sciences for

English may not get this same attention, or know how to guide a student effectively. Workload is something that also varies, as well as the time spent in each class. A student in the communications school may only have 1 hour of class, and very little homework, whereas a biology student may have to attend a lecture, a discussion, a lab, and a pre-lab, taking up more time. They also have to worry about exams, papers, and lab reports while other students may only have to worry about a couple of essays. What is fair to say though, is that the course material presented in all majors is not easy, but not in a bad way. The material is challenging, yet satisfying, and I can say that as a student that has taken health, science, business, writing, sociology, and psychology courses. Professors are presenting you with the best of the best knowledge in any course major. To reiterate, it really depends on the school you are enrolled in. There are plenty of abroad options for students, which is great, and many friends I have known that have been on them have loved them so much to the point where they wish they could have stayed there. As long as you have a decent GPA, you are able to apply to these abroad options.

Computers at Boston University

Up the Printing Quota!

The computers at school are outstanding, and can be found in pretty much any building. Computers line the halls in the College of Arts and Sciences. Computer rooms can be found in Sargent, Communications, School of Management, the Science building, etc. There is definitely not a shortage there, not to mention a plethora of computers to chose from in Mugar library and SMG libray. These computers are all very advanced, and fast. Wireless access is also wonderful--you can connect in your classrooms, the dining halls, dorms, and even outside. One thing I feel that is particularly lacking is the print quota. All of my professors use powerpoint presentations to lecture, and a printing quota of 100 pages is most certainly absurd and unrealistic when they prefer you to have the notes printed. I breeze through the quota in less than 1/4 through the semester and end up needing to buy convenience points to afford the printing.

Nightlife at Boston University

A

So Much Nightlife, So Little Time!

There is a plethora of nightlife variety to choose from in Boston, accessible through subway or bus! Downtown Boston has many clubs to go to if you like dancing and good music. It, as well as Allston, where many students live, have plenty of bars to go to as well. You are also sure to find plenty of house parties--students love to entertain in their apartments. Underage nightlife pretty much can only be found through these parties, as there is only 1 club I can think of that has 18+ admissions, though I find it rather trashy. As someone who is of age, I can tell you that I have been able to check out bars and clubs all over Boston. Transportation is great because you have the T system, and the very reliable bus system. The only downside is that the T closes at 12:50, when bars or parties close at or around 2AM. Taking a cab back from any of these events can get very expensive. If you're not into partying or dancing, there are 2 really nice movie theaters to go to, and of course, so many AMAZING restaurants to dine at!
