Computers at James Madison University

Convenient and Accessible Computer Resources

There is wireless internet all across campus, but in the dorms it's best to bring an ethernet cable because there's so many people trying to access the wireless that the connection becomes really low. There are multiple locations for printing things and the computers are nice and up-to-date. There's also a computer help center that you can either stop by or just call with a question. They make everything really easy.

Carrier Library

I love the library here. Some people will go to Carrier Library and just hang out all day studying or talking with friends. There's a Starbucks on the first floor and it's a very open and active area, but if you go upstairs there are the endless bookshelves and plenty of quiet study spots. My favorite place to study is the stacks, low-ceilinged resource rooms full of shelves and shelves of philosophy/religion books, old government documents, specified psychological research, and so much more. There is never anybody up there and it's somewhat hard to find if you're not looking for it. Carrier also has the Special Collections section, which houses old newspapers and documents from as far back as the 1780s. You can't even get in there without showing proof of ID and filling out a form. There are other ways to access it through old unused passageways no longer used in the library, but I'll leave it to you to figure that out.

Diversity at James Madison University

A

The Opposite of Discrimination

There are a lot of events celebrating other cultures and promoting awareness about world events, there's literally always something going on. There is some sort of club or group or seminar for every aspect of the spectrum of political and religious beliefs. Literally, every. The GLBT community is also very celebrated and there are a lot of events and groups dedicated to that. The JMU student population is mostly white, but being a minority won't alienate you in your social or academic environment- it will actually do the opposite.
