Music Education--Not for the Lazy
The Music Education program at Ithaca College is truly a test of how much time you're willing to dedicate to music. All assignments will be time consuming, so budgeting your time and loving what you're doing are both very important, or you'll always be in a bad mood here. Some of the faculty is wonderful and passionate, but some are poor teachers, hired for their highly esteemed research and writing. Our not-so-acoustically-pleasing concert hall is getting revamped, but the practice rooms are still noisy and cell-like. Overall, I've had a good experience because I love the material and my clarinet teacher.

Getting Off Campus and Back Is Tricky
Campus is pretty small, all well within walking distance if you live on campus. Going into town (the Commons) is another story. Walking there is easy because it's downhill, and Tcat buses are available to bring you back, but it costs $1.50 per person for a short ride, and they don't run very frequently so be sure to check the schedule before you get there or you might be stuck walking back which is not pleasant. I can't wait to bring my car to school so I can get places, but also it's difficult to get parking in the Commons, so it's never really easy.

Long, Cold, Snowy Winters
Ithaca has rough winters, so snow boots and rain boots are a must. It stays colder there longer than other places in New York. Also, the paths don't get plowed until about 11am, and I know I had 8am classes so I spent several mornings drudging through the high snow.
