Health & Safety at University of Florida

B-

Campus Safety Is Average

Overall, I feel fairly safe when on campus. There are programs set up to assist students if they ever feel as if they are not safe. For example, there is a bus service one can call if they ever need a ride at night and do not feel safe walking alone. Campus police are reachable in case of an emergency, but they are not present around campus at all times of day. The lighting at night around campus is poor, with most walkways being very dark. This tends to create a feeling of anxiety when walking across campus at night, especially if one is alone.

Local Atmosphere at University of Florida

A

Good Small-Town Atmosphere

Gainesville is a relatively small town. There is always something going on in town, whether it is on or off campus. The city will usually have different events like parades, cultural festivals, county fairs, or other local happenings. There are also several different venues for shopping, dining, and entertainment. There is a large shopping mall, three different movie theaters, and a huge variety of restaurants. Whether one likes small towns or big city-style atmospheres, Gainesville can satisfy any taste.

Athletics at University of Florida

A+

Best Sports Fans in the SEC

The Athletic Program at UF is definitely top-quality, and highly competitive against any other school. It is extremely well-funded, both by the University and outside sources. Gator football is huge in Gainesville, and the Gators have a huge following around the nation as well. Most all of our sporting events are usually packed to capacity with fans. The gyms around campus are also very high quality. They have the latest in exercise equipment, with top-notch trainers and dietitians readily available for students and staff. IM sports are fairly popular, with a large number of students involved. However, they are not near as popular as varsity sports are on campus.
