A Mixed Bag
I would say that Virginia Tech is mainly White, but at a closer look you'll find that the other cultural communities are quite present in this school. Virginia Tech is home to over 600 student organizations that include clubs such as the African Students Association, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Club, Islamic Student Assembly, Young Democrats, College Republicans, and so many more that show the diversity of our school. Most people at this school are accepting and kind, we all possess "Hokie Respect" which is respect not only for our fellow Hokies but to any others who we meet. People here at Virginia Tech area are a mix of people from all over Virginia and beyond. With most of us being instate students we come from the whole span of the state; reaching from the suburban northern Virginia, close to Washington D.C., to southern Virginia, and to Virginia Beach. We also have about a large amount of out of state students and over 2,000 international students representing more than 110 countries. Because we are located in the mountains in the small southern town of Blacksburg, it may seem as though we are not very diverse, but we are a mix of thousands of students from all walks of life.

Something for Everyone
I think that Blacksburg is a great place, although a quaint quiet town at times, the nightlife can be very exciting. There are lots of parties for anyone on campus or off to enjoy, ranging from small get-togethers with close friends, house parties, or fraternity parties. Our downtown area is a great place for people 21 and over. We have a large variety of local bars that serve amazing food! Our buses run all night until 2 am and run from campus to all of the major apartment complexes, downtown, and even as far as the next town over! One thing Blacksburg really does lack is a good club. We don't have many clubs that are that popular unless a student organization is holding and event there, so that could be one area Virginia Tech could improve their nightlife.
If you're not a fan of partying there are tons of different things to do on campus at night! Residential halls and student organizations will organize movies, free food, and events just to socialize! And if you just really need to study on some weekends, we have buildings open 24/7 with quiet study rooms and tables for anytime when you need to crack open a book.

Bring Your Umbrella!
Blacksburg weather is very fickle, because we live in the mountains, one minute it will be sunny and the next it can be pouring. Being a student here you can witness more than three types of weather in a day, whether it be sun, rain, wind, hail, snow, or anything else you can think of. I never go out without checking the weather first because you can be stuck in the middle of a rainstorm if you're not careful. This is a school where you should invest in a sturdy umbrella and a good pain of rain boots! Although sometimes our weather can be an inconvenience we have beautiful breezy and summer weather in the summer and transitioning to fall months and late spring months. Although the other part of the year I'm afraid is our winter months. We are known to have harsh winters and snow, but not to worry classes will never be canceled for snow. Our sidewalks and roads are built over heating pipes that melt the snow away, so there's never an excuse not to get to class.
