Closes Early, Bring a Car – All in all, off-campus dining isn't too bad- there's lots of fast food options, a surprising variety of sit-down places, and even some decent delivery. However, there are two main problems. One is that, for those without a car, the only options in walking distance are Panera and Zaza's. While good restaurants, the lack of variety in that respect can be frustrating. The other problem is that things tend to close late here- the only sit-down restaurants open later than 10 or so are IHOP and Waffle House, and even when it comes to fast food you're usually stuck with either Taco Bell or Rally's at such an hour, which is a bit absurd for a college town. However, outside of those two quirks, the dining options are plentiful, varied, and generally good quality, with most of it being fairly affordable for the average college student.

No Regrets – I love Hendrix. It's got strong academics, nice weather, friendly students and staff, lots of things to do... it's really been the epitome of a true collegiate experience for me. I couldn't imagine a better place.

Walk or Drive – There is no public or mass transit in Conway, though the constant train whistles heard on campus might make you think otherwise. Luckily, the town is small enough that this isn't really necessary. One can walk to a lot of things, and since even freshmen can have cars here, bumming a ride isn't difficult if you lack a car. There are shuttles to/from the airport for breaks, though often at awkward times, and two relatively cheap taxi companies are based in Conway.

Drinking, Mostly – Pot is available, and you'll often see smokers, tobacco and otherwise, outside Couch- one dorm stereotype that rings true. Harder drugs exist in a few crowds, but are fairly hard to find, and can be safely ignored if you aren't looking for them. Drinking is pretty prevalent, despite this being a dry county. However, the prevalence of drugs doesn't translate into peer pressure- I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, and I can count on one hand the amount of times this has seemed like a problem socially.

There is no Greek life at Hendrix, and nobody here misses it. If you want wild parties, go to Martin. If you want a tightknit residential community, that's what the dorms are for. If you want volunteer work, the VAC will be more than happy to find something for you.

In some ways, Hendrix is very diverse. We have a sizable amount of international students, and religious beliefs and sexual orientations are all over the spectrum. Also, students range from jocks to geeks to hippies. However, Hendrix is predominantly (though not overwhelmingly) white, and a large percentage of the students are either from Arkansas or a bordering state, with few non-Southerners. Additionally, the school is overwhelmingly liberal- I can count on one hand the amount of conservatives I know that go to school here- though Hendrix generally isn't in-your-face about political beliefs.

Better Than Most – Hendrix has been great to me financially, giving me much more in scholarships than many comparable schools. That's a big part of why I chose Hendrix. The process has been pretty smooth for me. However, once you get here, make sure to keep your grades up- I have a few friends who got their scholarships rescinded for poor academic performance and can't afford to stay without them. I've also heard that rebate checks (from excess scholarship funds) can be a bit slow to arrive. But as far as filling out forms and school generosity goes, it's quite painless.

Small but Quirky – Hendrix doesn't have a football team, but we do have a Quidditch team. That right there should tell you something about Hendrix's attitude towards sports- generally not a big deal and not taken seriously. The downside? If you're a serious athlete or love watching sports, you'll be a minority here. The upside? If you're not the most fit person but always wanted to play Quidditch or try sword-fighting, Hendrix has something for you! As far as facilities go, the WAC is quite nice.

The male dorms and Couch have better parking opportunities than the girls' dorms. The boys have three parking lots, while the girls have one, and often have to resort to parking lots for other buildings. Parking lots for classes range from very close to not that close depending on the building. Premium spots can be a bit hard to come by, but there's always something, even if it means a little walking.

Quite Safe – I've never felt unsafe on campus or nearby, and few major criminal incidents occur in Conway. Hendrix is a safe little bubble inside a sade town. Psafe (Public Safety) is a constant but friendly presence on campus. The worst I've heard about is a few bags getting stolen, and even there the administration's worked to prevent it happening in the future.
