Pretty Safe, but Be Careful
Generally, if you're on or near campus, you'll be fine. But crime does happen here sometimes, so travel in groups and have a cell phone. I've never felt unsafe in my dorms or on campus.

Some days are good. Others are terrible. It's usually somewhere in between. There are definitely a lot of options, though. Salad bars are good, and there are a lot of dining plans.
