Computers at University of Kansas

A

Computers on Campus

Many people bring their own laptops on campus. If you want to use your own laptop or other wireless device, the network covers the campus and all you need is your online ID and password. Guests can access a separate network, but with decreased bandwidth and more limitations. On the rare occasion when I didn't bring my own laptop to school to the libraries or the labs, I used the computers provided by the schools. They are effective and the internet speed on campus is very fast and powerful. That being said, during periods where students flock to every available computer, be prepared to either have your own computer handy or grab one when you can. Most of the time, however, there are plenty of computers to go around, and the wireless speed is sufficient for either situation. Printers are provided in the labs and libraries, with a minimal charge after an initial number of pages. If you already have a computer and printer, bring them just so you don't have to solely rely on the campus equipment. If you don't have one or either, neither are going to cripple you. The devices provided are more than adequate.

Greek Life at University of Kansas

B

Prominent, but Not Stereotypical

Greek life is prominent at KU. I wouldn't classify it as a dominating social factor though. There are many people in fraternities or sororities, many people opposed to the concepts or houses, and many indifferent. There are definitely times where it is used as an icebreaker in social events, or even in classrooms with other students. There are more than 50 houses available, split up into several councils should an individual be interested in joining. These can come down to profession-driven ones as well with certain academic concentrations being a major factor. There are some negative connotations about fraternities and sororities by some of the student body, but the general population is indifferent or supportive if they're not involved.

Inside Scoop at University of Kansas

A

Kansas University Is the Quintessential College Experience

Kansas is renowned for it's athletic program in basketball. From a road named after James Naismith, to it's impressive basketball stadium in Allen Fieldhouse, to it's avid local die-hard fans including both the students, faculty, and even business owners and employees, the love for our team is apparent. Businesses will often have a TV playing a game that's on or feature a special depending on our performance in the most recent game. Aside from basketball, Kansas University has renowned programs in Medicine, Pharmacy, and Law. Many chapters of Greek life cater to these and other profession choices in order to aid the students towards their goals, and there are many student or peer led programs to help other students with their classes. Many of the professors are leaders in research and development of their specialties and much of the equipment and services are state-of-the-art on campus. Our recreational center has been cast on ESPN demonstrating alternative energy usage, and Kansas University is frequently voted as one of the top most beautiful campuses in America by several review sources. The student body is by and large helpful, friendly, assertive, and dedicated. The campus offers plenty of student activities through the union and the separate housing arrangements, and plenty of resources to help.
