Athletics at Wesleyan University

A-

Athletics at Wes

As a recruited athlete, I'd say that our program is pretty good. It is division 3, meaning that it is a bit less of a commitment than larger universities, but the programs are still very rigorous and competitive. Wesleyan doesn't have a tremendous amount of fan support or school spirit, because there is so much going on besides athletics, and everyone is very busy. That being said, the football games are well attended, and everyone is supportive of the athletic teams. Our facilities and beautiful and state of the art. The fitness center is widely used across campus. There is a large sense of community on each athletic team, and student athletes are typically very dedicated and motivated.

Campus Strictness at Wesleyan University

A

Campus Strictness

The campus is not strict. If you get caught, typically they put your name down, but nothing comes of it.

Weather at Wesleyan University

Weather

I chose a school in the Northeast because I enjoy the four seasons. It does get cold in the winter; however, the campus isn't that big, and there is a transportation system, the ride if you don't feel like walking

Facilities at Wesleyan University

A+

Campus Facilities

I truly believe that Wesleyan has one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. For a small school, the architecture has a very "hallowed halls" feel that is typically only present on large, New England campuses, like Ivy Leagues. Everything is also very state of the art. We have a fantastic athletic center with a great fitness room, olympic size pool, ice skating rink, field house, rowing room, etc. We have two libraries. Olin, which is the main library, is truly beautiful, and the Science library has a more modern feel. Our student center is one of the best in New England, it is incredibly modern, accessible, and nice. Our classrooms are all very nicely laid out. We also have a movie theater in our film building, which is just as nice as one you might see at a cinema. Our theater spaces are all beautiful as well.

Local Atmosphere at Wesleyan University

A

Everyone Is Cool

Wesleyan is one of the most well dressed campuses, according to one college ranking. Our students are all very driven, intelligent, and passionate, which gives the campus a very special vibe that you can feel the moment you walk onto the grounds. There is also a great sense of community throughout Wesleyan. Everyone is very friendly.

Off-Campus Dining at Wesleyan University

A

many choices for small town

For a smallish town, Middletown has a lot of good dining options. There are a lot of good Italian restaurants. For a casual, family style Italian-American experience, try "Amici's". If you're looking for a real, Italian home-style experience that really takes you back to Italy, go to "La Cantina". You may fel like you're in a scene from the Soprano's, but it's a really delicious, fantastic experience! The Forbidden Bistro offers a great, upscale, Chinese setting, with a little bit of asian fusion, and Mikado and Osaka are both really good for Japanese cuisine, although Osaka has hibachi and Mikado does not. For lunch affairs, I highly recommend the New England Emporium if you're with your family or want to take a trip off campus. They have great sandwiches, salads, soups, crepes, specials, desserts, and beverages, and it's really cute. If you're looking for a cheaper option, that's just as delicious, but not quite as gourmet, go to Neon Deli. It's a huge hit at Wesleyan because it's pretty much on campus, and they have fantastic sandwiches, soups, and salads, as well as some grocery items. The people there are really nice, and it's fairly inexpensive. As far as diners are concerned, O'Rourke's is pretty much a Connecticut monument. It's delicious, and the ambiance is quaint and charming. It's also right in town. Be warned, however, that it's only a breakfast/lunch place and usually the lines are long. If you have access to a car, try the Athenian Diner, it's about a 3 minute drive from Campus, and it's opened 24 hours. They have great breakfast options, and it's a fun place to go at 3:00 AM when you've been studying all night. For vegans and vegetarians, It's Only Natural has great vegetarian options. And if you're interested in dessert, there is a Cold Stone, but for people who want a more authentic experience, try Praline's. It's right on main street, and they have homemade ice cream and pies. Also Vecchio's italian ice is cheap and delicious!
