Barnard is very diverse on all counts-range of wealth, ethnicities, and sexual preferences. It's mainly liberal and Democratic, but you can't expect anything else from New York.

Bring everything. Worse comes to worse, you can buy whatever you need around campus.

A car is unnecessary-don't even think twice about it.

There's some crime but only the same amount as in any other major city. I feel safe at all hours because security is always around.

It's sort of strict. Columbia has a "war on fun," so big ragers have sort of died down, though it's not hard to do what you want.

I really don't think it's worth it. New York is expensive, and campus housing is far more convenient. The campus lifestyle is important for the first two years at least.
