Transportation at Hollins University

C

Shuttle and Cars

Hollins offers a shuttle to the local mall and downtown every Wed, Fri, and Sat, as well as a shuttle to a farther location every first Thurs of the month. There's a CVS in walking distance, and a Kroger in relative walking distance (my friends have walked, but I think it's too far especially with groceries). No public bus. Getting off-campus without a car is a hassle as the only option (aside from the shuttle) is a taxi. Discounts to the mall and airport are offered, but that's still $14 a ride.

Hollins Is What You Make of It

The saying, "Hollins is what you make of it" truly applies. They have enough social events if you're a social person, but you also need to study if you want to pass. It is NOT a party school. School traditions (like Tinker Day and the senior rock) are fun. Food could be better--but they keep trying. Not close to the city. Gorgeous campus, friendly faculty and staff. Overall, I'm glad I came.

GO ABROAD

The academic program I think is pretty good here. There aren't any classes you could sleep through and still pass. Specifically in the Art History program, there are only three professors so that somewhat limits the number and subjects of classes. (I've taken A LOT of Renaissance classes, 2 Gothic, 3 Ancient...and Renaissance is my third-favorite time period.) But their Hollins Abroad-London program is AWESOME. Not only do you take classes sponsored by the school, but you can take classes at a local London university and get an internship. The abroad experience is fantastic, and it doesn't cost more than a semester/year at Hollins.
