Are there any Film, Journalism, or Public Relations majors I can speak to? I'm not sure which two to double major in...

How does the Living/Learning Community work? Do you have to be majoring in one of those to be in that housing? Also, I saw that there are certain seminars... is that mandatory?

Our living/learning community has a pretty active roll on campus, where students are engaging in their interests that match their future aspirations. You do not need to be majoring in that housing and seminars are not mandatory.

okay thank you !

How is the Honors College? What are the courses like?

The Honors College is difficult and time consuming. I have a friend in the Honors College and she is constantly doing homework for the courses. The courses are mainly seminars that you are required to take.

The classes are good but they involve a LOT of reading

I'm interested in the School of Communications, but I not sure exactly what to major in. Is it possible in freshman year to just be a general Communications major? Or if not, can anyone recommend what to major in between Film, Public Relations, and Journalism? I love writing so I want to pick a major that has a lot of that. I also wouldn't mind double majoring.

You could do a double major and they have a new masters in Documentary making but there are many options you should talk to someone in the department.

How is getting to classes during bad weather? Is having to cross the bridge from the dorms annoying?

No, crossing the unispan (bridge) is actually nice. You get to warm up a little if it's cold out and don't have to wait to cross the TPKE.

yeah crossing the unispan is actually nice in bad weather. it is really annoying getting to class in bad weather especially with the crazy wind we've been having lately. most buildings are at least a 15 minute walk from class which is a pain

the uphill on the unispan still makes me out of breath but its better than getting hit by a car on Hempstead tpke

I heard that a lot of people go home on the weekends. Is that true?

No, not all of the time. Not a lot of people go home on the weekends. Most of the time people stay on campus on the weekends unless it's a family emergency or if they're homesick.

Many people do go home on the weekends because they live fairly close to the campus (i.e. NYC). But there are no Saturday classes which make it easier to go home.

Is there a lot going on on the weekends that people stick around for?

Yes, there is a number of things that go on. A lot of different types of programs and seminars take place. Also, freshmen can go on trips to NYC for free, or for a very low deposit, which is always fun

Oh that sounds fun! thanks !

not true at all

I want to major in Communications and they told me I need to have interview with them first. Has anyone had an interview with them yet? What kind of questions did they ask you?

I'm also declaring my major as Communications. I have not had the interview yet but from what I have heard it isn't too hard. For the most part they just want to interview you to know what aspect of communications you wish to pursue.

I want to major in the same thing and I still haven't gone for the interview. I'm going for another visit this Tuesday so if I can, I will interview then

Does Montclair give many merit scholarships? Or not really since it's a state school?

No, but you can apply for scholarships within your major.

okay thank you

No, any extra money the school has seems to be used to "beautify" the school every year, scholarships from the school are RARE.

:/ okay well thanks

I want to pursue a career in writing ( i don't specifically know which exact career yet). Would anyone be able to tell me about the Communications programs?

Yes.

What do you major in?

Is Fairleigh Dickinson good for interships? Also, do you know if graduates usually get jobs quickly?

There is a department called career development that can get you and internship in almost and area. And some internships lead to jobs.

They have a helpful Career Development Team, who support internships and externships. Work study is often welcome inside and outside of school.
