Never a Dull Moment
Coming from a small town, when I first arrived to Atlanta I was very impressed. There is always something to do, no matter what the day or time. Whether you like art, music and spoken word, shopping or partying, there is always something to keep you occupied. Also, with schools such as Georgia State, GA Tech, Emory, and the other schools in the AUC so close by, it makes it easier to meet and hang out with other students. The only downside is that to get around Atlanta, a car is almost necessary and most first year students do not have that option. And if you do have a car, traffic sucks. However, the Marta, Spelman and AUC shuttle, and your two feet will take you just about everywhere you need to go.

Ehh...
The facilities at Spelman are average. There is Read Hall, which houses the Athletic department on campus. There, you can find the gym, weight room, and excercise room. However, the equipment is very limited, and the gym is small. The student center (Upper and Lower Manley) is pretty new. Located here is the cafeteria and the Grill, which is Spelman's fast food spot (and the food is yummy!) Everyone comes to Manley to study or meet up with friends or classmates. Building such as the Science Center and Cosby building are new, but the rest of the buildings are older and part of Spelman's historic campus.

Even Though I Don't Have a Car...(Lol)
Parking is expensive and limited on campus. I've seen a girl running after her Mercedes Benz as it was being carried away on a two truck because she decided to park in front of a building for too long. Spelman does not play. Just look around at all the bright orange "Parking Violation" stickers on everyones windows.

Safety First, Children!
Spelman security is awesome. They really look out for the girls on campus and off. You can always find one posted up in the side of the street where many students walk to and from the Marta station. Even though the area is (supposedly) dangerous, I feel safe on campus and around the neighborhood.

Ugh.
Food is food. I've never been on to complain, but oh my, some of the food that Spelman puts together is just weird. One night last semester, the main line served nachos, collard greens, and honey glazed tofu. Go ahead and eat from the main line of you want, and end up sick...
The pasta line is the best though. Mr. Stanley (Hey!) makes the best pasta for us, and the sandwich line is pretty good too.

Fuego.
Coming from Florida, I was used to the heat. So when I arrived on campus and had to live without AC, it was not a big deal. Buy a fan and learn deal with it. And aim for a room on the ground floor, because they're generally cooler that the top floors. The best HBCU in the nation, but no AC? I say they're preparing us for a tough life :)
Freshman dorms are terrible, but housing gets better each year. Junior year. you can reside in the Suites, which are really nice apartment style dorms.

Boys.
Spelman women are stereotypically the well dressed, well mannered pretty girls. No matter what time of day, no matter what season, you will always find most of the girls on campus looking well put together.
Much of our social life involves the boys from Morehouse College. Simply put, they're cute. Well, some of them. They make awesome study partners. And if you ever have to walk somewhere or go somewhere by yourself and you need company, simply call one up and they're usually more that happy to come with.

It rains and it never stops.
It snows not even an inch and the entire city shuts down.
You can experiance every season in the same week (rainy, windy, freezing, blazing hot...)
Atlanta heat is like no other.

Wide Range..
Yes, the school is primarily African American. And sometimes even those who you think are Hispanic or white are African American. There is such a great mixture of people on campus, ranging from where they were born to their ethnic backgrounds, religious views, education and upbringing. You usually have women who come from upper class families and then you have the ones who are struggling to pay off their tuition.
