Diversity at Lawrence University

A-

Being a Gay Girl in Wisconsin

Lawrence University has turned out to be an incredibly open and accepting school regarding diversity in sexual orientation. While everybody has been accepting and encouraging of diversity, through promotion of our school's GLOW (Gay, Lesbian, or Whatever) club, classes on gender, sexuality, and events on campus, I still have yet to form strong friendships or relationships with people of other sexual orientations. Overall, the campus is extremely accepting but I think the population of LGBTQ students needs to be larger.

Nightlife at Lawrence University

A

Live Music Makes It Great!

All students are free to participate in the nightlife at Lawrence. Usually there is at least 1 house party a weekend and a fraternity party every other weekend. The small campus makes it easy to walk to all parties on campus, parties are advertised both on Facebook and with flyers in dorms, and there is not a huge pressure to drink so parties are mainly places to dance or hang out with friends. What I enjoy most about parties at Lawrence that I haven't encountered at any other school I've visited is the incredible live music that occurs at house parties. Either our drum group Sambistas, or 3 or 4 other great college groups will play and because most of the band members attend the music conservatory, the quality is always excellent!

Parking at Lawrence University

C

Parking Can Be Impossible

Parking is a frustrating subject at Lawrence. It is challenging for parents or visitors to find a place to park in Appleton since street parking isn't permitted. There is not a lot of parking spaces behind dorms for students to park their cars in and most end up having to pay for public parking in downtown Appleton. Since you do not need to have a car to get around campus itself this may not be an issue for freshman, but upperclassmen or people who want greater freedom may find parking/bringing a car challenging. Also, you can't park illegally or you're bound to get a ticket within 10 minutes
