Facilities at Johns Hopkins University

A-

Always Renovating

JHU's facilities are always undergoing through major renovations. Many buildings have become state of the art facilities. For instance, there is a student center currently being constructed and it is supposed to be phenomenal. The recreational center is also exceptional, it even has its own rock climbing wall. There is also a huge lacrosse field and center being constructed as well.

Health & Safety at Johns Hopkins University

A

Excellent Security

Security at Hopkins is excellent. Dorm security is top-notch. There are many "blue-lights" all over campus in case of an emergency - press the button and security shows up within seconds (literally). At night, you will alway see security patrolling around as well as security vehicles. Additionally, there are always shuttle vans available to take you home at night if need be.

Majors at Johns Hopkins University

A

Love the Interdepartmental Majors

I am double majoring in two interdepartmental majors (International Studies and Global Environmental Change and Sustainability). I absolutely love it because you can take a wide variety of classes (interdepartmental means you take classes from different departments). The classes are also excellent.

Diversity at Johns Hopkins University

A

Extremely diverse

I love this school's diversity. It is extremely diverse. Not only ethnicity, but where people come from, their different backgrounds. You always learn something new every day from the students, faculty, and the community. It's very enriching.

Greek Life at Johns Hopkins University

A-

Lively and fun

Greek life is very lively and fun to be a part of. While I'm not in a sorority myself, there are many opportunities to be involved through Greek life. The sororities all have a close bond and often are very involved in community service and fundraisers. Sophomores can rush as well as freshmen.

Guys & Girls at Johns Hopkins University

A-

Co-ed dorms

The dorms (including freshmen) are co-ed, meaning that girls and boys live on the same floor. However, suitemates/roommates are the same sex. I think it's a positive asset because you develop friendships with a lot more people. Relationships here are not too common, since many are often too busy with their academics/research/work etc. But on the other hand, there are many couples around. Also diverse.

Local Atmosphere at Johns Hopkins University

B+

Have to Look for It

You do have to put in some effort to find something going on in Baltimore. The Inner Harbor almost always has something going on there and it is easily accessible through the Collegetown Shuttle (free). Also there are several colleges nearby - Loyola, Goucher, Towson, just to name a few. Sometimes students go there. Also, D.C. is a short train ride away (MARC train only costs $7 and the Penn Station can be reached through the Collegetown Shuttle and the JHMI, which are both free) and there is so much to do in D.C. I frequent there at least 3 times per semester.

Academics at Johns Hopkins University

A-

Rigorous

The professors can be very resourceful and helpful, but you have to take initiative - they don't come to you. But that is pretty much expected for any university. Some of the professors I've had have been phenomenal. Many professors are involved with some research as well. Registration is simple - seniors go first, then juniors, sophomores, then freshmen. For many classes, the workload is rigorous, but can be done, especially with the help of TAs and classmates.
