Pretty Safe
I've rarely felt unsafe on campus at Iowa State. There are your usual things like people being drunk and vandalizing things. Also, ISU, like any other campus has a lot of people overdrinking and getting sick and sexual assaults as well. We do have prevention services which give students the education to prevent such things, however, I feel, there are not enough required events to make this helpful.

Very Friendly
Everyone is so friendly here! There's all diferent kinds of people here, and you'll be accepted no matter what stereotype you fit into. The beauty of a Public school is that everyone fits in. It's not like we're "Hip" college students, just trying to get from A to B and be only 10 mins late for class. You'll see everything from the latest looks on the runway to people wearing sweatshirts and jeans everyday. Some classes do require you to dress up for certain assignments but otherwise you'll fit right in!

LOUD LOUD LOUD
The dorms were pretty small for two people and people decided to get drunk on Thursdays and all through VEISHEA so studying was minimally effective at best for those times. I suggest the library or a greek house for studying during times that are associated with drinking. Definitely want to steer away from Larch. That's the "party dorm" as is Hutton-Dodds in Friley.

Semi-Strict
CAs enforce the rules if you disturb somebody, but if you're just chillaxing and drinking, you should be fine. Don't smoke on campus or throw stuff out the windows and you should be trouble free. Parking is the strictest thing on campus

Cy-Ride Is Most People's Ride
Parking permits are cheaper at ISU than most people's highschools. Cyride is the public transit system and it's free if you're a student and there are campus circulators that are free for everyone. They go most places and parking at hotspots off campus isn't bad either. There's really no reason to have a car your freshman year because you have to live in the dorms anyway and getting around campus and most of Ames is easy on cyride.
