Health & Safety at University of Florida

B-

Health and Safety

Mold was growing in one of the dorms and the university basically didn't do a thing about it for a long time. And I heard it was really gross. Also, you can get sick from mold and spore growth so... as for health, I wouldn't say its the healthiest. There is a free clinic which is small and outdated for the large amount of students, but its "free" (not really because we pay for "health care" in out tuition payment, but other procedures are also greatly reduced for students because of the teaching hospital, Shands! The campus is pretty safe, there are texts sent to students when something happens, and only 3 things have occurred this year (including the blowing up of a lab). I feel like the security is mediocre though, UFPD is MUCH more concerned with giving out tickets for speeding than anything else. EXAMPLE: A lady crashed into me on my scooter on campus, and then left without stoping, and a cop was watching and did NOTHING. I then asked him why and he said there was nothing he could do anyway because I didn't fall over (but my scooter has a scratch now... so yeah I could have been hurt for all he knew). Also, the campus is ridiculously dark, not safe to walk alone after dark at all.

Greek Life at University of Florida

C

Greeks

Greeks run the student union, which sucks because scooter parking keeps going up, and even though I vote for a different leader, they always get the spot in office. Greeks are viewed by others as rich kids, because pledging at UF is extremely expensive. But, Greeks definitely don't dominate the social scene, so its not a big deal if you don't pledge. There is a funny story about the alligator that gets painted by the frat members of a house. Its a funny UF tale.

Drug Safety at University of Florida

B-

Drugs

My campus is tobacco free, which is great. Drinking is considered a "huge" thing, but in reality its not. To get alcohol and be underage is extremely difficult if you don't know someone over 21, because they don't fall for fake IDs since they always swipe the fake ID. Also, all stores must stop selling at 2 in the morning, and at 11 or 12 on sunday. As for drugs, I've honestly never seen anyone do anything besides weed at a party. However, some girls in my psych class used the classroom bathroom to do coke right after class! It was disgusting. They belonged to a sorority.
