Academics at University of Iowa

A

Professors and TA's Always There to Help!

At the University of Iowa, the professors and TA's for my major which is human and health physiology are beyond educated to help you with any type of questions you may have. With a difficult major, questions do come up and professors may not always have the time on their hands that you may need. With the TA's generally being in graduate school themselves, they have almost just as much knowledge as your actual professors do but they have a lot more time on their hands and prepare you accordingly to make sure you have the necessary skills and knowledge for applying to graduate school or even looking for a job. Studying at the University of Iowa and having the academic records and connections you gain, will carry with you and give you that extra boost needed for the future.

Drug Safety at University of Iowa

B+

Drinking Is Very Easily Noticed

There is not a noticable drug scene at the University of Iowa, besides the occasional news report of someone getting busted but I guess it depends what you chose if you attend the school. Downtown Iowa City and the house parties are very popular, and since it is a wet campus, you can see many people drinking during tailgates for football games, and downtown. There is some peer pressure because the partying scene at Iowa is very large, but don't get me wrong, there a great number of people that stay in and study on weekends too! It all depends who you chose to surround yourself with. If caught, underaged, the enforcement is very strict and you most like will recieve a paula (possession of alcohol under the legal age), so watch out for cops if you are drinking downtown!

Weather at University of Iowa

B

Rain, Rain Go Away!

The University of Iowa campus is a fairly large campus, with respect to the distance of dorms, to where classes take place. If its storming. windy or SUPER COLD (winters in Iowa can be somewhat BITTER cold), prepare yourself because the walk from the dorms to campus could be awful, but buses do run from the dorms to campus, so make sure you get to them on time so your not late for class! Otherwise, make sure you bundle up or grab your umbrella, because even if you are on campus, you will be doing quite a bit of walking! During the fall, spring and summer the campus is absolutely gorgeous, so a lot of people are outside and walkig around then, which makes up for the other crappy times during the year!

Nightlife at University of Iowa

A

Hit up Downtown!

Downtown Iowa City is the place to be during the weekends. Although the bar age limit is 21, knowing people who work at the bars and having connections usually can get you into any bar. The underage nightlife is very active. Either your at a house party or downtown ever weekend. For transportation, usually the way to go is a cab, they are everywhere and you will not have a hard time jumping into a random one with a group of people if you need to!

Campus Strictness at University of Iowa

B

Cops Everywhere

During the weekends, when going downtown or at house parties, cops are everywhere and if you underage drinking or doing something you shouldnt, you will get in trouble. The cops in Iowa City tend to hand out PAULA's like its no big deal. They aren't shy and they will bust you no matter what, so watch your back if out and underage. If drinking in the dorms, be careful because RA's aren't scared to open a door if they suspect something wrong going on inside..I know from experience!

Parking at University of Iowa

B

Pay up

There is a ton of parking everywhere on campus, but it is all meter parking meaning you will need to be carrying a lot of change around with you. There are also a ton of parking ramps that arent too difficult to find a spot in. I would advise people to bring mopeds to campus instead of cars while its warm out- there are a TON of places to park them and can easily be squeezed into places if needed. At night it can be a nightmare finding somewhere to park-mopeds are the way to go, plus they save you tons of money on gas!
