Facilities at Santa Clara University

Life at SCU: Facilities

I LOVE living in the dorms. They are newly remodeled and living in the dorms makes it so easy to meet people. We all leave our doors open and become very close to the other students who live on the same floor and in the same building. The gym is so nice, the athletic centers are all brand new, they are constantly renovating dorms, like Graham and Swig, and building new, amazing, sustainable buildings such as the library (built 5 years ago) and the Locatelli Center. Campus is beautiful and is the perfect mix between old and characteristic and modern and nice.

Campus Housing at Santa Clara University

A+

Life at SCU: Dorms

I LOVE living in the dorms at SCU. I live in Swig and it is an 11-story building full of freshmen and sophomores. It is such a great place to meet people, my floor is very close, we all leave the doors open and socialize constantly. While it is expensive, it is worth the cost, the dining hall, Benson, is one minute walking from Swig and most of the dorms. There are also a lot of different dorms with different atmospheres because of the different RLC's. If you are very social, like going out and are outgoing, don't mind noise, live in Swig or Dunne. Campisi, San Fillipo, Graham, Sobrato and Casa Italiana are on the "quiet side" of campus, which is also SUPER nice. I would not recommend living in Walsh and McGlaughlin, they are fine, but the other dorms are better. Off-campus campus housing, like Bellarmine, University Villas and Saint Claire's are all good options as well especially for upperclassmen. I would definitely rank the off-campus campus housing 1. University VIllas (brand new) 2. Bellarmine 3. Saint Claire's (old motel redone, not the best option), bad location. The neighborhood next to SCU is the most popular option for upperclassmen. The houses all have names, such as "America", "Zoo", "Oasis", "Cloud 9", etc. I would recommend living off campus as an upperclassmen.

Life at SCU: Weather

It is nice when you move in in September, in the 80s-90s, by October it is pretty cold, 50s-70s throughout the day. Cold winter, no snow, and lovely spring.

Academics at Santa Clara University

Life at SCU: Academics

School was harder than I expected at SCU, but it is a good challenge. Get to know professors one on one and go to office hours to be successful. Participate in class and go to class, most professors take roll, or at least mine did. You will find the library always packed, but it is not so busy that you can't have social life. Professors will set you up with awesome internships and finding a job after SCU is easier than most colleges because we have such a strong alumni connection in the Silicon Valley.

Diversity at Santa Clara University

A-

Life at SCU: Diversity

There is a diverse group of kids on campus, however I tend to notice there are an awful lot of white people. Asians, African Americans, Hispanics, and Pacific Islanders seem to have a presence on campus as well. It seems like everyone is from Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii.

Life at SCU: Scholarships and Financial Aid

Because SCU is a private, non-profit school, they are able to offer a lot of money in financial aid and scholarship. the Santa Clara Fund gives 80% of the money to Scholarship. A majority of the students are on some sort of financial aid or scholarship.

Campus Strictness at Santa Clara University

A

Life at SCU: Campus Strictness

SCU is more laid back than you might think for a Jesuit university. If you do get caught drinking or smoking in your room, campus safety takes away all of your drug/alcohol paraphernalia. Like, shot glasses, the actual alcohol or drug in question, and you get fined and have to do community service. Don't drink or smoke in the dorms, be smart and you won't get in trouble.

Guys & Girls at Santa Clara University

A

Attractive AND Nice

The guys and girls at SCU are for the most part, extremely attractive. They are also the nicest, most outgoing, most inclusive people also. This combination is not always easy to find. The upperclassmen are not intimidating and it does not feel cliquey. Overall, it's the perfect balance.
