Health & Safety at Duquesne University

A

Relatively Safe

Duquesne has police circling the campus 24/7 and I have never felt unsafe on campus. However, once you step off campus, you have to be careful about where you go - the Hill District is right down the street and is a really bad area. When something bad happens nearby, alerts are sent to your cell phone so you know what is going on.

Campus Housing at Duquesne University

Freshmen Dorms Are Terrible

For freshmen, St. Martins only has one washer and drier per floor and the rooms are painfully small. St. Anns is known for being strict because the guys and girls are separated, but the rooms are bigger. I lived in Assumption, and I thought that everyone kept trying to prove that they were smart. Although, every week you get free breakfast, which is nice. Upperclassmen live in Vickroy, Towers, and Des Place is being built now. Towers is by far the worst place to live because you have to wait for elevators all the time. I would say that Vickroy is the best because the rooms are like suites, although it's very hard to get in.

Overall Experience at Duquesne University

It's Ok Here

Everyone here already knows each other and I feel like I'm in 13th grade. The guys are either players, dorks, or gay, and it's very cliquey. However, I like that you recognize people around campus. A lot of people take academics seriously, so it's not hard to find someone to study with. I liked all of my professors because they were very willing to help anyone that was having trouble. There are no parties on campus at all - everyone leaves to go to Pitt or Southside. If I could do it again, I'd probably go to Duquesne just because it's close to home and they really care about their students.
