Campus Dining at Connecticut College

I have grown to really appreciate Conn's dining halls. Although the main entrees can be unappealing at times, the vegetarian line, egg maker, and salad bar make putting together a healthy meal easy. Harris is very accessible to the students and gives the ability to get creative with your meals. Soup and salad lunch and "make your own stir fry" in Freeman are amazing.

Diversity at Connecticut College

Conn is more diverse than one...

Conn is more diverse than one would think, but not nearly as diverse as some schools. Many students have some sort of financial aid, but you might not know it from simply looking at them. There is a fairly large number of international students who put on fun events to highlight their cultures. However, the image of a Conn College student is probably a preppy, wealthy, and white New Englander. This is a broad generalization though.

We don't have Greek life, which is good because we are such a small campus to begin with. It would divide the social life too much.

The party scene at Conn is pretty much in the dorms, which can be good and bad. Conn students who are over 21 can go to the campus bar in Cro, which is particularly popular on Wednesday nights. Also, students over 21 can host kegs in dorm common rooms if they follow the new campus safety policies that are strict about underage drinking. If you are quiet, partying as an underclassman is fun. You just have to avoid getting written up several times and having to go to the judiciary board.

Because I am from Minnesota, the adjustment to a small, East Coast town was harder than I expected. However, I have grown to absolutely love Conn and all that it has to offer! The opportunities to become involved on campus in a variety of ways are plentiful and allow one to feel very connected to the school. Conn is small, but I love being able to know so many people in my classes, activities, and dorms. It creates an inter-connectedness on campus that is hard to find at larger schools.

The weather is relatively mild. It can be hot through the middle of October and cold from about mid-December through the end of February. We do get snow, but it rains most often. Because we are on the coast, we definitely get wind off of the Sound, which can be an annoyance and make it seem much colder than it actually is. When the weather is nice, Harkness and Ocean Beach are awesome places to go for the day with friends!

Bring rain boots, uggs, a winter jacket, and a fleece!
