is Newhouse worth the cold weather, the sub-par surrounding area, etc.? Is it all cracked up to be?

just got off the waitlist and I have, oh, 10 days to decide....

My friend also just got off the waitlist, but already committed to Ithaca. Trying to decide what to do. Any advice?

same here!

I have the same situation!

Newhouse I'm pretty sure is the best communications school in the country. They have amazing networking. If you can afford it. I would say Newhouse. Everyone wants to be in there

How are Boaz, McElvaney and Cockrell-McIntosh

Boaz and Mac are the loud and "party" dorms, but also really chill. Its what you make of it. You will meet just as many chill kids in there as the "party" kids.

Cockrell-McIntosh is quiter. Also, houses the engineers. Its really nice though.

is the girl to guy ratio (60:40) really that bad? I visited today for an Open House in COM and yeah, there were a few more girls than guys, but it didn't seem as drastic as everyone else online makes it out to be.

Just visited the school for the first time. Nobody told me how attractive everyone is. Plenty of people work out and stay in shape. Definitely tons of eye candy for everyone and anyone.

I got an invite to a reception for admitted students, but I never got my letter saying I was accepted....dafaq?

Me too!!! I think they sent the packets and those invites at the same time but the packet takes longer so we should be getting them soon!

yeah i got the package but not the invite so dont worry!

Haha, yeah. First of all, congratulations! The acceptance letter comes in a huge package with a big booklet of stuff. Admissions goodies and glossy pics mostly. So it probably takes a while.longer to ship than the small invite envelope. :)

I was accepted ED I and I didn't get my letter until 3 weeks after they called me to notify me of my acceptance. It got lost in the mail... so don't panic! AU is kind of bad with mail communication...

is it more of a hook up culture here or relationship land? or is it a mix of both?

Mixture. Do what you want!

Emerson College Guys & Girls had a new discussion posted by carolapple

is it really hard to date here, even if you make the effort to go outside of the Emerson area? I know that there aren't many straight guys, but Boston has so many colleges around Emerson, and there's other parts of the city like Chinatown and North End where there's lots of people to meet.

OkCupid, my friend

Honestly, dating is what you make of it. If you put yourself out there, and you're open, confident, and happy with yourself, you will find someone. It's only if you pressure yourself to find someone that you won't. Dating happens a good deal here!

There actually are a ton of straight guys here. Sure there are a lot of gay guys, but honestly people just exaggerate. But regardless, it's easy to date in Boston. Tons of intelligent, driven men.

How's the journalism program?

Hi! I applied to NU this year as a journalism major and was accepted. I attended their Welcome Day a couple of months ago, and the program seems great. My dad's a journalist, so I know that two of the most important things future journalists can do are gain experience and make connections, and both seem to be promoted at NU. I'm not sure if I'm attending in the fall, but it's definitely in my top 3!

How is it being a northerner? Do people sometimes act like you're alien or some exotic, rare animal or do they not really care?

I am a northerner and it doesn't really matter. However, you will be shocked by how much emphasis is put on football and greek life!

I am a northerner! I love it, and love talking about home. we are small in numbers but their are others. no one judges or treats you different... if anything they like hearing about a different place

I've lived all over, and it is really not an issue at all. You MAY end up buying some cowboy boots for football games though!
